New flat - Broadband help!!

I have just moved into my flat and I was wondering how I would find out if I have a phone line or not? Also whats the best package to go for if I don't really want to make calls, just use the internet?

plug a phone into the socket and see if their is a dialtone, if their is dial 150 and see if it goes through to bt/post office/vm etc.0
