wrap some sticky tape round 3 sides of the ethernet plug to maker it a more snug fit - don't obstruct the contact pinsChris Elvin0

Examine the end of your cable first. Does it look like this, with a little tab sticking out of the top?0

goog point - if the plug does not have the litte tab or lever on it then it can't lock into place. If that is so, then a new cable is what you needChris Elvin0

yes the ethernet plug does look like picture tanglefoot posted .it is the piece on pc that is broke0

now that's unusual - but c'est la vie. Rather than go to the expense of a USB ethernet adapter I would try sticky tape and/or rubber solution (PVA) glue i.e. something that can be removed when needed. Not Araldite

Oops, too slow.It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0

I'm curious: what's the make and model of this grievously wounded machine? Ethernet ports are usually rather more robust than the plugs that go in them...0

If the cable is busted you could get a new cable quite cheaply. If your port is broke then can get a USB to ethernet adapater or alternatively if your machine supports it you could get a PCMCIA card which would provide ethernet.--
