Hello,
After attempting to down load music, and play dvd's on my laptop. I have had the misfortune of having a message which reads unable to play/download as my (codec)* does not support either the disk or is unsupported. Does anyone know what this means, and if this codec is needed; recomend a reliable trusted website where i can download it from thats assuming its software.
Kind Regards

I guess (and I may be wrong) that you're trying to download illegally. The 'codec' which you are being directed to is almost certainly malware.
with the xvid codec and vlc player you should be able to play 99% of content without further downloads.Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
try - K-Lite Codec Pack its what i use and never have any probs

Assuming the message is in fact legitimate, you first need to identify the missing codec before you can actually go looking for it. We can deal with trusted sources later.0

The above is a good safe site to download free software from. One of their offerings is K-Lite codec packSomething Really Interesting0 -
Why do people keep recommending that thing? From what I've heard it causes nothing but trouble.0

I thought it was just me, thanks, tanglefoot.
I use the 2 tools I listed earlier (vlc + xvid) and I don't struggle to play anything.
..I have also in the past installed individual audio/video codecs, flac, ogg etc.. when required..I installed ffdshow when converting audio streams..and various others for other tasks. I would never install a 'codec pack' in the same way as I'm not gonna carry the contents of my shed around with me on the offchance I want to change a wheel. 90% of the problems reported on this board are due to people installing crud they don't need!Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
