Car Hire - moving outside a country

Hello folks
Have done a search but not a lot in this area so forgive me if asked before
Myself and g/f later this year shal be flying to Faro airport before hiring a car and driving to Spain (faro being the nearest airport to our final destination).
We are in the process of choosing a car hire firm however have been advised that we will possibly pay extra (sometimes significantly so) because we will be taking the car out of the country we pick it up in.
Ive found nothing in any info that suggest this to be the case and indeed most quotes dont ask you where you will be travelling too.
Should we expect to pay more for moving the car from portugal to spain?
tia

It depends on the countries involved - you need to check with the car hire company if it's not stated on the website. For instance, many Spanish car hire firms charge extra for taking cars into France, but I'm not sure about Portugal to Spain.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
It is one of those read the small print things that you will have to go through on each website, sometimes booking direct with the car hire co that includes this may be cheaper than paying extra with the broker.
BTW https://www.clickair.com fly LHR-Seville directPosts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
If you go through a broker, I've found that they're pretty useless when it comes to this information. Most of them just say 'a local charge may be payable', which is a fat lot of good when you're comparing prices...
If you get a quote direct from the car hire company, at least you can speak to a human who might give you a realistic answer. I've hired from Europcar on several occasions and there has never been a problem taking cars into neighbouring countries. Give them a try.
Do note that just because they didn't ask you where you were travelling, it doesn't necessarily mean they're happy for you to take it abroad! You could find yourself uninsured, which is a big problem in Spain (arrest, bail bonds...)0 -
EBookers were pretty competetive for me when I needed a car for Spain and Portugal. Their Ebookers selection worked out almost half the price of booking with the actual Rental Company, Avis in my case.
I phoned their helpdesk as I needed to know who the car supplier would be for the 2 Country hire, they told me over the phone and all sorted.0
