Recommend me a router please?

Hi my pretty ancient router is overheating at the weekends (2 kids on xbox live all day:rolleyes:) and with the holidays coming up I thought about getting a new one.
Please can you give me a couple of recommendations..
I need it to be wired, have at least 4 ports,
capable of PPPOE (whatever that is), and suitable for using with xbox live.
Oh and change from £30 would be nice, but not absolutely essential.
Feel free to ask questions if I haven't given enough info :).

Thanks in advance,
MrsB.

Ask your ISP for a free one, if you mean router/modem

    otherwise a good switch: http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/1131107/Netgear-FS105-Switch-5-Ports-EN-Fast-EN-10Base-T-100Base-TX/Product.html

Hi thanks for responding, yes I need a router/modem.
I have an aol wireless router - that's all they give out apparently, it's been in the loft since I got broadband in 2003, so I don't really want to go down that line.
    Any other suggestions please?

Thank you, this was one of my son's shortlist. It's good to hear an unbiased positive review.

If I am not mistaken, AOL gave out Netgear wireless routers that had 4 wired ports. You do not have to use it wireless! Have you checked it?

I think it's a lottery. I've seen cheap ones that perform really well (zyxel), expensive ones (those netgear ones with the blue top, & those Belkin N ones that seem to get cheaper and cheaper in the Argos catalogue) that are not good.
Those new BT hubs (the smaller ones) are even worse than those Orange roof-shaped ones. And they are my "1 to avoid".
I have a 3com one that I've had for a few years that gives little bother. The basic Belkin ones are ok. I do like the few Buffalo that I've seen.
Wouldn't be keen on speedtouch, probably because the earlier versions were given out by the likes of talktalk and were simply pathetic.

Everybody recommends the DG834G here (search the techie forum - there's 100s of recommendations), so it must be ok.
