I have had to sign on due to change in circumstance, and all i can say is how demeaning. We are not all 18 year olds who can`t be bothered to get out of bed in the morning! Yet are treated as such,i am nearly 57 so i quite realise that the chance of finding work is not that easy.yet i have an appointment to attend a back to work session.at 57 years of age i will have some whippersnapper talking down to me as though i am some idiot who does not want to work !or does not know how to look for jobs or act at a interview. All i can say why don`t you give my appointment to someone who really needs it like a school leaver not someone who has about 7 years of working life left and wants to work and is doing all she can to find a job!!!!0

I'm sorry that you are in this position. I too am unfortunately unemployed, since october. I dread my signing on, and like you feel that at our ages it is a terrible position to be in. My problem is that at 44 i feel as tho i may well be too old for a career change ( i am doing an ecdl course, and enjoying it) and that although i want a job i want one to enjoy and better myself. I feel i may be reaching for the stars. It is really tough finding any employment and a complete challenge. Good luck :-)0

You do not know if they are going to talk down to you until you actually have the appointment.0 -

The Back to Work session I went to was OK (Im 37). It was a waste of time for me and would be, IMO, for anyone that has been working for a sufficient time and has basic interpersonal skills. I think its probably more geared for those who dont really have a clue about interviews, finding work etc so I guess they have to make it mandatory for everyone as they dont know who needs help and who doesnt. It only last about an hour or so.:smileyhea0 -
