The charging structure ie the way the charges are debited has changed and not the price ;)

I am absolutely outraged! I used checked my balance on 28th May before using my debit card. I check my online banking the next day and find that I have gone overdrawn because natwest decided at the end of the 28th to apply a £38.00 charge for a direct debit that failed (that's my fault, I forgot to cancel it). THEN they have charged me £70.00 for card guarantee charges (£35 for each time I used my debit card the day before) because their charge put me overdrawn. A charge that was applied later in the day than I used my card! I know point of sale can be slow but both the transactions show on my statement as going out on the 28th.

The robotic moron called Tina I spoke to at Natwest said it wasn't a bank error as the charge was showing on their account before I used my card (how convenient) even though when I checked at the cash machine it said I had funds available and I know the point of sale machine would have rejected the payment if there were not enough funds available.

Is there anything I can do about this other than shove my maestro card up her backside and move to a different bank? I have put over £30,000 into my current account in the last year and that's the best customer service they can come up with?

theres no banking error and techinically its not you fault your a complete IDIOT you have a maestro card which i a debit card
All transactions on your debit card usually go out the next working day although the bank usually assigns the amount of money to those transactions so your balance shows the amount minus those charges
so next day you go in and the failed dd charge has gone out using your balance (again the dd charge is usually done the day before but is not ]accounted against your balance ) then the debitcard charges went through giving you a minus balance and more charges so your bank isnt at fault

How do you explain cleared funds showing at the ATM prior to the OP using his card?
I don't get that part of the post. If an unpaid fee is going out then surely the OP would see available funds as £0.00 or have I missed something as well?

Do you mean 21 days as per the new change in terms and conditions that came in on June 1st which was 3 days after the incident?

The idiot is you for assuming you know what you are talking about. While POS mostly shows up on your statement the day after you actually used it, the amount is debited from your available balance immediately (generally - apart from if you buy a ticket on a train). Before you huff and puff and tell me you know better pop into Tesco and a selection of other stores and buy something and check your balance immediately after (I know you made this point yourself but it doesn't seem like you actually understand what you said).

If you'd now like to show me where in massive, clear letters on a shining sign (it must be really obvious for everyone to to know this) where it states that charges will be taken the day before? I only ask because I always assumed that where it says "this charge will be taken from your account on this date" they actually meant the date they say. Duh! What an idiot. Obviously they mean the day before. Even if they did I have never heard of this practice before.

Is it OK for them to take these charges with no notice? Surely there should have been some notification before £108 was taken from my account? None of these charges have been advised my mail OR in online banking. They just appeared.
