How do you determine if we could afford to buy a house?
Can anyone truly say without a doudt that over the 25 years or what no they can 'afford' and pay of fully without, default, debt or stuggling..??
Well not many people know the future.
If you asked this question at 2007 at peak of market with 125% mortgages, most people would say 'duuuh.. yep NR can lend me 125% mortgage so yerrrp i can afford a house wooop woop'
Seriously while i recognise you are heavily biased, can you not even see how this question is laced?0 -
So i could afford a house if i had 200k hanging around and no mortgage... seen as hardly anyone does that i'd say nobody could afford a house except the uber rich :P0

Sorry you are wrong if you need a 3 bed semi with a garden and you can or cant afford it, it is a simple yes or no BASED ON YOUR PERSONAL CIRCUMSTANCES.
It looks like generally the people on this board that nearly half could afford to purchase but 2/3 believe property to be over priced.
Please point out any leading as I clearly state based on your circumstances, there is even an option to opt out.
Please make a question that is unleading then please.0 -
This poll makes no sense.
How does my personal circumstances reflect the myriad combination of factors that affect each person in a different way, leading to whether there is, or not, affordability of "homes"?
How many should I be buying - is there an average expectation?
Its a shame there is not something like an "average earnings" and "average house price" correlation, that could give us an overview of affordability of housing.
Then maybe a poll of what people think about affordability in general could add flavour to those dry statistics.
Between the two, it should give some idea...
If only...0 -

It is a snap shot of the posters on here.
What is the problem with the bears I do a fair poll and you throw you toys out.
How does average wages average house price fair on this board.
I earn over the average wage nearly double should I buy 2?
Tell you what bears come up with an unleading poll yourselves and i will gladly answer:)
Sorry I just remembered you can afford to buy buy are waiting for the bottom:)0 -
They are 'more' affordable, but there is still some way to go in my opinion, put it this way, I could by the same house now, that I bought in '96, but I'd be a lot poorer than I was then, the house that I bought in 2001 is still out of reach, unless I cash in my investments, which there is no chance of me doing while the economy is so weak, while the economy is weak, so will house prices.0

Hey AD I hope you didn't vote that you couldn't afford one
'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
Your poll says "are homes"...
This implies "generally", not what each person might do in relation to their own home.
Its no better, nor worse, snapshot than Devs poll.
Don't complain about us quibbling over your poll, when you were among the first to quibble over Devs...if there was less quibbling and more straight answers, this might be a more enjoyable forum.
Hope you enjoyed the taste of your own medicine...

chill Really - you know what some of these "people" are like.
it's pretty simple - either you can afford property or you can't
some simply can't or have made mistakes buying property in the past and are hoping it property will crash. leave them to it.0
