Cheryl - Glad doggy seems a little better, could be worse finance wise - you should see the vet bills a horse can land you with:eek:
Good news on CT result:D
Nyk- I am going to bite the bullet and join in with the c25k challenge, I may regret it - but will give it a try. Before I humiliate myself totally in public I will start on OH's treadmill until I can do a bit and still breathe:rotfl:
looking at the Harris blackhouse campsite - wonder how much it would be for exclusive use for a frugal gathering next year one weekend0 -
Yae, go Harris Frugal Meet 2010 :j
Thanks CW, thought so.
Hm, having written down all the calculations I'd done in my head without interest rates etc, the worst case scenario for the cottage isn't looking too hopeful. However, incomes and interest rates will hopefully be better than that so we'll see what unfolds over the next year
BB, glad OH is gening up to help us out with the smallholding idea
Oh yes, and I'd be up for the running thing Nyk, couldn't get the website to work thoughand will need to start once I've acclimatised (no, seriously
)
Off out to a friend's for dinner so gotta dash, byeeee xThe 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

Day one of my running challenge, did the first 21 minutes on the treadmill, managed without needing oxygen:p, but sweated like a piggy:rolleyes:, and according to electronic doo dah on the treadmill I burnt off a grand total of 60 calories:rolleyes: (it was actually 59 but I have round number obsession like Nyk so kept going the extra minute to hit 60:rotfl:)
Now I need a shower!!0 -
Rained all day here, and I'm not ready to cope with jogging throught the puddles (not ready for jogging really :rotfl:), so I moved furniture to make a clear route in the house - one lap of the living room then up and down the hall, through the galley kitchen and the dining room and back into the living room. Downloaded the podcast and played it really loud on the pc, and I have done day 1 :j Hope this counts, as I am really feeling it now, knees and ankles are not what they used to be and the stretches at the end were really difficult, but I'm sure it will be worth it!
If any of you are thinking of trying it, I can recommend the podcast as the beat of the music keeps you going and it tells you exactly when to change from walking to jogging and back again. I'm doing the time, and not worrying about distance.
The good frugal news is it's all free :T
Bails fingers crossed you find a way to get the cottage, it sounds ideal.
I watched 'build a new life' on catch up, and agree it would be a lovely place for a frugal get together.
cw glad the dog seems a little better

Hi guys, glad to see a couple of you joining in the C25K :j:T
SM, you can come out with us at the weekend for workout 3, it'll be fun. Friend's on duty Wednesday night, so I'll probably go to hers for a treadmill workout and just hope she doesn't get called out during that half hour. Either that or I need to drag HS with me as I'm not risking running into a stray bull or tractor on my own. :rotfl:
Island camping - from what I gathered from the programme, they were charging £20 per tent and could take 5 tents at the one time plus website says they have room for one caravan. It would need to be during a less windy time of year, though, as I know several people who have lost their tents to gale force winds on the Islands.
My workout 1 of C25K went alright. Pal brought her dog along and he was the first to tire. Our driveway is a perfect length for the early workouts and a slight extension along the track (where we took SM at weekend) should see us clear to make it 30 minutes when the time comes to run the whole 3 miles! It seems an awful lot from where I am at the moment but at least we get 30 mins! Those miltary folks have to do it in 23 minutes wearing/carrying full kit, from what I can gather.
Rain stayed away here, so this evening's walk went ahead as planned. I managed to pick a few more berries, but reckon the birds have already got at the best of the rasps! Couldn't get in for more cones as farmer was bringing the silage bales in off the field.
Bails, wood gathering is frugal but don't forget it needs to season first, otherwise it can damage the chimney flue with build-up of something like creosote. Can't remember exactly why, just that it shouldn't be done, not even on an open fire.
Finally, on the consultation fees - have you seen what it costs for private health and dental treatment? It kind of dwarfs veterinary fees and we don't even get a furry pet to take home at the end of it. :rotfl:
SM - I know what you mean about the horses, it's even worse when you're racing them because then they are almost impossible to insure against any form of injury, never mind illness or loss of use. It's all relative, I guess. Animals of any description outside of standard farming are luxury items. Mind you, I almost bought some Continental Giant rabbits at £70 apiece just because I like them, but sense won over sentimentality, thank goodness, as I couldn't think who would look after them when I was away. They're much bigger than the New Zealand Whites.
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

You must be a mindreader Nyk. After talking about the vets earlier, I got to thinking about my dentist's bill when I have finished my treatment. Remember I broke my tooth last year? Well that treatment is still ongoing as I have had to cancel appointments due to work etc and it can take around 6-8 weeks to get an appointment at my dentist. I think my bill is going to be around £400. I should have studied harder, the dentist is loaded!
and, the final word about the vets, then it goes to bed. I was telling one of the sisters about the discussion on here...............think I'm bad? Well, I was sorry I mentioned it, she went on and on and on...............you get the picture. And, I got the price wrong, it's £103 just to get in the place, the last couple of times she went it was £137 and £143, with her rabbits, Sam was more because he had sore eyes and ended up at the small pets hospital. She must like soapboxes like her big sister, bless!:rotfl:
I'm off to bed now, only 2 more sleeps until the interview, nite all xx0 -
Good luck with the interview prep SkintLynne, really hope it goes well.
Well done to all the runners, great stuff! I'd really like that podcast, can someone post the link again please.
Duly noted about the wood Nyk, thanks.The 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

You don't even need to choose the one name to use all the time - lots of people use both a married and a pre-married name. You can use as many names as you like, in fact. All perfectly legal as long as you're not using them to commit a crime :-)0 -

Yes thats true ........you can call yourself anything you like as long as it's not fraudulent
However i recently applied for a new passport for DS and as i had legally changed his name since his lastpassport expired it was such a kerfuffle
mainly due to assesing if the name change was in fact legal, due to his estranged Dad not giving consent ..................or being in touch for 5 years..............once it was established that the ex had no parental responsibility everything went through fine ..............phew
feel a bit rough today but i have to go out
Finally getting somewhere with my youngest ds and his possible ADD the doctor has confirmed we will be referred to a paedeatrician for further assesment after the school finally admitted they agree with us (its a posh village school with no problem children or bullies ;0)...................i wish)
Last bit of pantry tidying done and filling the huge spice rack hubby has built has meant that i now have 3 empty cupboards (but not for long!)
Have a great day everyone
