Arrrrghhhh!!! Just had a new bill for my Council Tax - and they're increasing by DD by £38 from next month due to DS having turned 18. I can get my single person discount back after I provide either proof of him being a student (can't get a letter from college until September) or of being in receipt of Child Benefit (and I need to get hold of them for an extension before they stop paying it at the end of next month - but am concerned they may want the letter from college!)
Council are sending me out a form to complete today, but said once they get it back with the required proof it takes about 10 days to process - and as my DD is due out on 15th August they doubt it will be done in time to stop that going out at the increased rate
I'm seriously tempted to cancel the DD, pay the next month or two at the old rate by cash, then let them kick in a fresh DD once they get it sorted. Not sure how well they'll like that (suspect they may start chasing me for the whole amount owed until the end of this CT year), but I'm going to struggle to find the extra £38 this month with so little notice (only reason I may be able to is the fact my Dad paid for the meal on Saturday :rolleyes2 )Cheryl0 -

Oh WOW! NOW I see what SM means when she laughs at my understanding of the word 'busy' - my local station obviously isn't busy in the least when comparing it to any of yours CW or Lingo :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: However, my current local station is very busy when comparing it to my last local station here :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Oh my, I really should get out more, but I'd never cope in those sorts of crowds.
better not come here by train Nyk
we have two stations this one

and this one

they are on opposite sides of the same road. Just a tad busy:rotfl::rotfl:

CW. Sorry to hear about your bombshell. I hate the way councils operate with regard to collecting council tax but no one seems willing to change it.0

Have now (supposedly) notified CB office about his course from September - but whether they process it or not is anyone's guess !!! Tried phoning several times, but kept getting cut off as they're busy - so I've now completed an on-line form instead (for which I've had email confirmation). In the meantime I may try and blag at least another month at the lower CT rate once the form arrives from there - as the latest letter I have from CB says it's payable until the end of August. Surely they'll have to accept thatto keep the discount in place until thenCheryl0

cw - I am really shock that the c tax changes the moment DS turns 18 but still in full time ed. Out of interest, did he take a gap year somewhere (assuming he's doing A levels, he would nromally have been one of the youngest in his year).
Had my haircut at super cheapy place again and very happy - a third of what I was paying elsewhere. Having short, fine haircut , it does need cutting every 6-7 weeks to hold any shape rather than looking like a wet weekend.
Kittikins - a rested mummy is a good & very necessary thing, so don't feel bad about puting LO back in her own bed. We never shared my parents bed and I am suprised by how many friends allow themselves to be ill with exhaustion though inability to create a boundary round their bed space. If we were sick, mum/dad came to us in our bed, but we never questioned not going to theirs.
cw - thnks for the link lesson - I've been wanting to know that too.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
BB - yes he ended up taking a year out between GCSE and college..... he started a course, but it wasn't what he expected and there was a lot going on at home (my back problems and DH's cancer) - so for the first time ever in his life he started to bunk off. So he was out of education from the November of that educational year. CT office told me it changes as soon as they turn 18, as the child "is then entitled to go out and work for a salary"...... so it's up to me to prove I'm still entitled to the discountCheryl0

Hi Everyone!
Really pleased with some new sandals I picked up this morning (£29 Cl*rkes-a really good deal). They are really comfortable and suitable for everyday wear/including the sandy beaches.
Lady who sold us the cottage has offered £500 towards the cost of the roof. On the one hand, she didn't need to give us anything. On the other hand alot of the problem has been caused by her neglect.
But I don't want to get down about it..reading of other's troubles on the thread puts things into perspective for me.
We've got the money sorted out, my dad has agreed to oversee the work and when we come back from holiday we'll have a lovely new roof.
CW-Sorry to hear about your council tax cost rise..I always admire the way you tackle each challenge. x
Hope Bails had a lovely walk with her dog.

I have just finished the last of the gooseberries and now have 31 jars of fruit for pies, crumbles, fruit fool or just as they are with icecream.
I miss counted last night (forgot I had done a few on Friday.)
My Jar lifter came this morning so no more burnt fingers getting the jars in and out of the boiling water.0 -
I can understand the mixed feelings about the roof SFT but at least it'll be sorted while you're away :T When do you go?
The walk helped thanks. There's a great quote on the Hunger site sometimes which sums up how I feel, something about going to Nature to have your senses healed. I'm flitting between knowing we'll have a different but amazing experience anyway to being sorely disappointed - that job meant so much to me after 4 years out of work
Great work with the gooseberries grandma, v impressive! :T
Sorry about the council tax shock CW, glad you seem to have it sorted. The 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000
