Yay, congratulations Bails, that's fantastic news, it's made my day :):):):) (sorry, can't do spectacular emoticons but I'm thinking them, lol)

NYK - have you thought about making sourdough bread and capturing your own yeast from the elements? I've just been reading about it in the R/ver Cottage Family C00kbook, it sounds fascinating - and very yummy, I love sourdough with a passion. Let me know if you'd like me to type it up for you, with whatever embellishments or copyright acknowledgements as appropriate.
  • I've been part of the challenge but not kept to the budget. So much going on that it seemed impossible. However I'm M.S. though and though.
I try and read every day and feel like I've got a great bunch of friends on here.

I found this really easy guide for which you don't need to buy any yeast unless you want to add it which is optional. You'll find loads more if you google sourdough yeast.

P.S. After TAB bingo changed their system of free scratchcards to bonus money only I finally won sth playing it - £15 :T

  • No apologies required Nyk: you announced it in wonderful style:D. Tis delightful news bails HSstars.gif

Knee deep in decorating at the mo so not around much but rooms nearly done. Will be going back to work for a rest I think.

sft: I'm an inch shorter and 5lbs heavier so we are probably much the same and if you are going to the gym, I am quite sure you are going to sort the extra weight in time at a healthy slow rate.

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
  • :smileyhea:heart2::heart2::heart2:Congratulations to Bails and Mr Bails:heart2::heart2::heart2::smileyhea

:( Hope you get well soon Lingo.

Not a lot to report here folks, I'm really busy with work and have not had a lot of time to post. I'm still trying my best, I can't believe the last quarter is coming up soon. Where did all the time go?

I might change tack next year and do an all in challenge, for all spends. I'm thinking around the £10k figure but will do some figures over the weekend before I decide for sure.

    Speak later xx

    Congratulations bails on both events.

Get well soon Lingo. I just heard on the news that the second wave of SW flu has already hit the UK.

I found this chart and it was a lot easier to read than a lot of them. According to this chart you are just a bit above the top weight for your height. A far as I know it is not just your height that is important but your frame too as someone with a small frame and your height will need to carry less weight than someone with a large frame. Also apple shape is more of a problem than pear shape because fat in the middle area can cause heart problems.

Well DD3 rang tonight and said the class she had today had nothing to do with the course she was doing? She is going in tomorrow to find out why they put her in it. Personally I think it was a funding thing but we shall see.
Also do others at college/uni find their schedules get changed at a moments notice? It causes major problems for her because she has three young children. We step into the breach as a family and do our bit when asked but surely these people must realise how these changes affect people like her ?
  • Great idea about the sourdough i am never that organised to do it i hhave however done this

pinch a lump of bread from todays bread and add to a little water in a bowl (enough to make a paste) leave in a warm place until tomorrow and then use this for your bread instead of yeast

I am not sure about the sourdough but this method is really only for hand made not BM bread as it needs a slightly longer proving time

Crafting today i have lots of christmas stockings to knit!

Grandma my uni doesn't we have a timetable and apart from making appointments for tutorials it isn't deviated from ....................however we are all mature students and studying at a satellite college rather than at the uni itself

Was the class english or maths ? we were encouraged to do key skills to compliment our degree if we didn't already have a qualification in either.

Have a great day everyone and hope you are feeling better lingo

  • Bails, that's fantastic news. Congratulations!!!!

Lingo, hope you're feeling better soon.

I had a slightly traumatic moment last night when my Dyson refused to start. My first ever vacuum, and one of the original model of Dyson... however the internet is fab and we have managed to work out that it's the mains cable thanks to the instructions on how to take it apart. We got it working well enough for me to hoover the kitchen, and at least a new lead will be cheaper than a new Dyson!

    Good Morning frugallers :)

Lingo, hope you're feeling a little better today - bed, hot blackcurrant juice & aspirin is my cure-all remedy but the occasional bit of chocolate helps too :D

Lynda, how did you manage with the fascinators etc? I forgot to ask about that when I saw you budget stretching. I need reminding of the date, can't risk missing out on a virtual frugal event. :)

Thanks for all the sourdough suggestions, I don't even know if I like the stuff. :D However, friend sent me a selection of bread additives and one of those is for sour bread, so I'll try it next to see how it tastes. Making anything that entails leaving it in a warm place is completely out for us from now until late May 2010 as we don't have central heating - back soon, neighbour here for cuppa :)

A very nice person on Amazon will be making the hair combs for the bridesmaids :D I've earnt enough in surveys to cover the cost, so they will be virtually free... although £24 in reality. I'm going to wait until I've collected the flowers I'm using for the posies, and then send her a sample (if I have spare - photo if not) so she can match the colours. The flowers are at the post office, so I'll collect them tomorrow :j Looking forward to having a go at flower arranging....

13th March, by the way. H2B has now put a countdown calculator on his facebook page :rotfl:
