Aaah, thankyou everyone, it's been so lovely to have so many messages from halfway round the world! To be honest, I'm a little deflated that I can't be round my mates' houses drinking 'champagne' and dancing round the room, gossiping about meringue dresses etc - who'd have thought I had such a 'girl' lurking in me?! :rotfl:

The HUGE achievement of making it up Kala Patthar has been overwhelmed by subsequent events :D but I'm hoping it will sink in eventually. I said if I made it I would apply to the expedition company I used to work for again...but now I don't know if I'll have time to fit it in, depending on when we get married! The Dream Pot is now to be used for the wedding but that's literally all we have for now. Our dilemma is that we can either get married next year (Sept time) or have to wait til 2012!! As you can imagine, I'd much rather save up the money first but 2012 is a very long way away...

I don't think anyone should delay anything that means so much to them, there's no telling what might happen between now and then. Do what your instinct says - have the wedding. :D 2012 will still arrive but you'll have truly shared everything up to that point and can plan your entire futures together as man & wife. You could even by a mum by then! :D

Good morning people, hope everyone is well and that the poorly frugallers are surviving, expecting ones expanding and planning ones frugally planning. We have another dry day here, so more washing to make the most of drying time, and I EVENTUALLY got around to defrosting the freezer with some help from HS. The pile of frozen food on the kitchen table served as a great example for proving that there's plenty in stock despite nobody ever being able to suggest anything for dinner! HS listed whilst I did a quick blitz with the ice scraper, entire job took less than 20 minutes. Now I must knuckle down and attempt a dreaded MEAL PLAN! (Not one of my strong points!) :rotfl:Or maybe I'll hang out the washing then trim the hedge first... delay tactics kicking in already! :o
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Frugal living challenge - living on little in 2025 while frugalling towards retirement.
  • Good morning frunchkins:D

Things beginning to return to some pattern of normality in my life, which is very welcome. Chickies and OH have been fed and watered, loaf baking in breadmaker, washing is done and on the line drying so just having a quick 10 minutes on here before heading to town for gate hinges.

    Plans here for today

For me :bake a quiche, bake a banana cake, bake some cup cakes, make a batch of stilton and broccoli soup,
For OH: mow the garden whilst it is dry weather, clear some clutter from shed.
For us both together: lay a couple of paving flags in the hen run and finish putting up a fence and gate.

    Have a good day everyone:D

Bails, I'm another one for voting not to delay the wedding. It feels so different being married -- more exciting and more settled; a fab combination.

We have a filing/paperwork day ahead of us, along with a review of our 'yellow folder' of medium and long term plans (have a few things that are progressing nicely).

So we'll love you and leave you for now.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
  • Bails don't wait unless it is a flashy wedding you're after. As nick says 2012 will still come and wouldn't it be great if you were a mum by then.
Sm I'm glad things are improving, you sound busy as usual, it helps a bit.
I hope those who are unwell are feeling a little bit better.
I have just made some fig preserve from some fresh figs we got last night, 25p a box of six. Dh bought six boxes but I only used 3 'cause I love them fresh.
  • Hi Everyone!
Enjoying a lovely pottering day in our little cottage.
It's giving me some time to reflect and count my blessings. Watched the latest episode of the Secret Millionaire and found it very moving. Volunteering is something I will definately do in a few years time...really enjoyed doing many years ago when I was a student.

We've done washing and nearly done the ironing! Mr SFT is making spicy parsnip and chunky tomato soup. He's also cooking some windfalls. Our freezer is jam packed. We need a frugal month..before the roof disaster we booked flights to France for a Half Term Break. So they are paid for and Mr SFT got some euros for his birthday. However we need £200 for the accomodation and £200 for the hire car. This will have to be our contingency which we have none of at the moment. Although part of me thinks I should just cancel the trip and keep the money as things are tight enough as it is. Would would you do?

Bails-Never put things off. Whatever you plan (didn't I hear mention of a woodland wedding once?) will be special and beautiful. Our was and only cost 1.5k. As a wise MSE said who knows what could happen and I think you'd love a family, wouldn't you?

    Lingo-Hope you're feeling better.

Nyk-Think I might go for a £1k challenge until Christmas if that is ok? Feel I'm getting back up on the MS horse so to speak.

Going for a walk later to see what we can find. Will try and get some firewood down the country track. It all helps. We've been using our paper logs on the cold evenings too.

Will post again later. Appreciate any advice given about France.
