I have freeview Skint-chick so I need to get used to that guide more. I often only used the mag a few times a week and to read the articles at the beginning so it was a waste for us.
cw18 - my teenage sons also go on about the dates being up on food. I buy loads of reduced stuff and freeze so they can get dates about a fortnight out.
Had to smile when I heard my two taking the rise out of me by theatrically saying, 'Wow, heres one without a whoopsi label. How did that one get in the trolley?!' :rolleyes:MAY GROCERY CHALLENGE £0/ £250

Good morning frugalers
It's cold and wet here today and looking like the fire will need to be lit to take the chill and dampness off the air plus help dry the washing. I have an absolute mountain of eggs needing used but keep putting off the marathon baking session in the hope a space magically appears in the freezer! It seems impossible to empty it nowadays because there's always something that can go in to make up another meal!
Holiday with cousin postponed for now as HMI's visiting where she works and this seems to have put a new slant on how she will be spending her spare time.I need to show my ignorance - why would a visit from the education inspectors affect someone's holiday plans? Or is she just pretending because my lack of possessing a passport is actually a major disappointment to her?

There are even natural alternatives to those.
Nyk you can freeze eggs for later and they take up less room than things made with them.0 -
Hi Grandma, I do know you can freeze eggs but I have no room in the freezer and the eggs are laid every day by the hens in the garden, hence them piling up so quickly. LOL My LETS buddies will soon aid in their dispersal, I just need to get myself organised enough to make all the stuff and then organise my time accordingly.
That's the bit I'm rubbish at

Quick hello from Wales
On the icecream front, try freezing any fruit [or buy ready-frozen *slaps own hand at the very thought*] then when you want ice cream, bung assorted fruit cubes into the processor/liquidiser along with some fruit juice [for sorbets] or milk/cream/custard [for icecream] and whizz. Voil!, icecream in moments.
Frozen bananas [out of their skins if possible] are excellent as they are creamy without adding cream. Sounds weird, works brilliantly.
must dash, love, hugs, praise/commiserations etc to all - shall catch up asap, but NOT today!
DGIf you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!!0 -
ps if you freeze bananas in their skins, when they thaw out a little you can just slide the, by then a little slimey!, skins off them - NEVER use them with the skins on!! Bleagh....If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!!0

The normal thing is "OK, so what's the offer on these then?", as he's now used to non-Whoopsie goods being things on special offer :rolleyes2Cheryl0 -

I get that, too. :rotfl:
They make me feel like a right ole skinflint sometimes. Having said that - they are learning. DS1 won't go out with his girlfriend for lunch without checking for vouchers and knows all the deals going.
When he starts making them up a packed lunch I'll know I've finally won him over to the MSE side.MAY GROCERY CHALLENGE £0/ £250

 No chickens, it seems. The person who we'd agreed would keep them for us until next Saturday sent a message to say she's sold them. I think it's very rude to do that!!!! And we were all excited, and had even agreed on names for them all
We'll now have to take the food back, as it has a limited shelf life - and there's no point storing it when it could be 6 months before we do get some chickens. Aargh.
On the good news side, I also sold a sink on ebay. I'd picked it up on freecycle but as we then didn't need it, tried offering it back with no takers. So listed it on ebay and have got 99p, though I'll send that to charity as it was a freecycle item! It didn't seem right taking the sink to the tip when it's really nice and perfectly useable... so at least ebay reached a wider market.Live on £11k in 20110
