  • Also, if you want to be sure of taking advantage of their latest discounts, then search for 'Cheap desktop' (or laptop if that's what you're looking for) on Google, click the Dell Advert (on AdWords) and it will send you to the page with the best available discounts.

Then spec out your PC... and then call them. It's surprising what they'll throw in over the phone over and above what you can buy it for online. Definitely free delivery, and almost certainly free software (as long as you're not too greedy). I've never had to push them to get things thrown in.

  • I use to work in a uni department and did a lot of ordering of PCs, I've ordered so many Dells in my time, never had any problems. I've personally got a Dell latitude D600 laptop (from work) and it's taken a world of abuse.. it's still going strong

Put it this way, if my mum asked me what PC to buy to do some word processing on and browsing the net, i'd tell her to go buy a budget Dell. Then i might say go buy some more RAM (it's got to be Dell RAM or you'll void your warantee) from aria.co.uk or https://www.crucial.com/uk/ ... if you ever want to run Windows Vista (the next version of windows) you'll need 512mb minimum

You could always buy and fit a CD rewriter, ebuyer sell them for about £15.. For £30, you can get a DVD/CD writer..
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Don't disagree with everyone re Dell value for money, but they do like to push technology forward, as do, I suppose all the others. My point though, is that people who anticipate continuing to use their whizz-bang graphics or sound cards, etc., moving them to the new pc, ought to check on the expansion capabilities. New dells have no AGP slots, for example, and they like to use pci express, which is fairly new.
    Might just be worth checking....
