Ebay/Paypal payment problem..... confused!

I won a bag on ebay on Sunday & (as usual) tried to pay for it straight away, but Paypal says that the seller only accepts payment with a credit card or by echeque?
I've never come across this before, I always pay by instant transfer. I sent the seller a message to ask if she knows why I can't pay by instant transfer & she said she didn't know, she hadn't had any problem with any of her other buyers, but she only has 2 sales, with 0.0% feedback, and the sales are from 2006....... so I guess she must have another account or something?

Basically, I don't have a debit card, just an atm card & I don't have a credit card either (except for a prepay one that I pay to top up & pay to use as well) so I can't pay for it that way & if I pay using an echeque then according to paypal it wouldn't clear until 13th July, & the bag will be posted 2nd class, so thats gonna be about a week....... I don't want to wait that long really.
I wouldn't have bid on it if I'd realised I could only pay by echeque. :(

Does anyone know if its possible for the seller to change her preferences or something to accept instant payments?

Thank in advance guys.

Hi, sorry to bump this, but I'm still no further forward with this! How long should it take Paypal to get back to me? The seller (understandably) is getting a bit antsy about getting payment, I've explained that I've tried to pay for it but it still keeps saying: "Some payment methods are not available for this transaction. This payment can only be funded with eCheque or credit card." Could it be something to do with the seller not using her ebay account for 3 years?

Have just had a message from the seller saying this:

"Hi, My dad said he will send you a payment request from his paypal account. You can see if you can pay through him. Thats ok with me."

& now I have a paypal request from her dad!! Am I right to be annoyed that she has passed on my details?! Wish I'd never bid on the b****y bag now!

  • Yes, I would be annoyed. Don't pay it, I believe it means you have no buyer protection.

Thats exactly what I think, but I don't want to end up with a strike for not paying?

That's why I suggested speaking to them :) You may grow old and die waiting for an intelligent email reply ;)

I think its a problem with your account. You will need to pay by credit card or add a debit card to your account.

I had something similar recently for some reason it didnt want to let me use the bank transfer. Then after a few days it seemed to right itself. So I just paid with stuff via my debit card for a few days

I don't have a credit or debit card or I would have just paid that way and not worried about it. I've paid for another item since I won this & paid by transfer as per, so surely it can't be my account?

I'll try calling paypal tomorrow to see what they say. I've got 2 payment requests on my account now though, 1 from the seller and one from her dad. What'll happen there?
