Ubuntu will probably work on that, but according to this the graphics driver specific to the SiS M672 inside it has to be installed manually.
Any idea who actually manufactures the things?0 -
lol, I did start writing about linux but then deleted it. I run ubuntu on a virtual, mainly to test apache configs, like it a lot.Photography. Graphics. Coffee.0

Good job I'm here then:the stores name is of course: www.novatech.co.uk select Laptops, then Home or whatever, then View System, then Modify make your selections and you're done.
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -

OMG I got lost halfway through this discussion LOL
Thanks for all your tips and ideas, I am not a graphic designer or anything and will just be using bogstandard applications like spreadsheets/word processor/diary and the internet. We've had so many problems with viruses and stuff that I'm tempted by the mac, and from what I can tell they run loads better than any windows type pc.
I am doing a degree with OU and this gets me a student discount with Apple and brings the cost of the macbook down to £644, plus £35 for their iwork (is it worth getting office for mac for £99 instead?).
So am weighing up around £700 for a mac, vs around £500 for a decent 'other' laptop. I'm thinking that if Mac is as good as everyone says that £200 will feel worth it over the life of the laptop.
Thanks everyone,

I think you've answered your own question. Also consider that the depreciation on a standard 'other' laptop will be much higher than that on a Mac over the same period. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Also you'll still be using that Mac laptop in 5 years time long after the PC one is dead and buried (well from a hardware PoV)0

Get a macbook, forget the iwork but go for the office for mac.0
