Compliance Officer

I have received a letter saying that a Compliance officer is calling to see me on the 2nd. I'm worried sick although as far as I know I only claim for what i'm entitled to. Has anyone else had a visit from these people and what are they looking for. Thanks

They are looking to make sure they have all the details of your claim down correctly.

Nothing to worry about - most of the time.

They are not fraud officers as such, but they are there to check you are only claiming what you are entitled to.

However, make sure you are in on the day, as if you aren't, that might affect your money.

Is this for tax credits? I used to know a guy who worked for tax credit compliance dept and he used to visit people sometimes just to check up on them checking all sorts of things such as making sure if they are a single claiment that there is no partner living there. Nothing to worry about though if you are not doing anything wrong.
  • Hello,

I've had quite a few of these visits, probably 4 in the last 3 years.
I suppose they are twofold. Firstly to update your information, and secondly, make sure that you are who you say you are, and that your domestic circumstances are as in your claim.

Just have 3 months bank statements, pay slips and benefit letters, and it will all save time.
It's helpful, as the officer will fill in a new claim form, and you can just sign it.

Compliance officers come out for specific reasons, they don't just randomly pop out for a blether & a cuppa tea. Has there been any change in your circumstances in the last few months ? Have you attended all your work focussed interviews (if appropriate) ? Have you recently separated from a partner ? Do you declare part time work ? Do you have a works pension coming in ? They're all reasons why compliance officers come out ... they visit claimants who are high risk for payment inaccuracies because of their circumstances.

But as has been said, they're not fraud officers so there's nothing to worry about there.

Contrary to what Ulala says, they are often random selections, there doesnt have to be anything wrong.

    Perhaps where you live.

Compliance in our area have lost staff to benefit processing & random visits have long since been abandoned.

  • I had a customer compliance home visit yesterday, it turns out someone (probably my bf's ex) had reported me for having him live here (even though he doesn't).
