£168.69 - charges to be taken next week!

Really need help i lost my job in March and have been struggling ever since - only just started recieving any income at all. I phoned bank in April to cancel all standing orders and dd's - have been paying bills by cheque as and when i can. Found out at the end of May that my dd's and standing order hadn't been cancelled and i was being charged as they bounced. £30 was charged in April and another £30 in May.

I have a £600 agreed overdraft, which i went over briefly at the end of May due to intrest charges.

Today have recieved a letter saying that £168.69 will be debited from my account on the 6th July. My overdraft is currently at -£595.23.

These charges consist of 3 unpaid direct debits and 1 unpaid cheque at £30 each. A £21.50 cheque card misuse fee as well as unauthorised overdraft fee of £20 and intrest of £7.19.

Is there anything i can do? As soon as these fee's are taken i will once again be overdrawn again and incur further massive charges. I know i can try to reclaim some of these charges and want to do this asap, but i understand this takes a long time.

I have opened a basic account elsewhere and am now having what little i'm getting put in there.

Go through it in a chronological order, ie you cancelled standing orders and direct debits on x date but not cancelled and you incurred charges because of it. It is bank error so they do have to repay the charges.

Managed to get through to them on the phone. He said they had no record of a request to cancel dd's in April and so as far as their concerned there has been no error.

What's my next step? Really worried this is gonna end up in a spiral of charges and intrest. At the moment all i can do about this account is small token payment each month and try to reclaim charges as i'm in financial difficulty - owe rent, council tax and water and am unemployed.

No you have misread what I meant. Did you write or ring them to cancel your Direct Debits and Standing Orders(I have a cunning plan but not in the Baldrick sense of the word :D).

I have too much time on my hands to be honest which is why I am sometimes on here too much.
