    Hahahahaha...

I love the bit in the OPs post about Primark giving paper bags- I don't think thats for the environment....I think Primark would have to stop selling clothes full stop if they wanted to be slightly environmental- I have yet to buy something from them and have the elastic or quality of the fabric remain after 10 washes.....

But agreed, paying to use a carrier from a store is not done to decrease the use of plastic from the store (you only need to watch the store unpacking deliveries to see the waste!! Though I do have to say, if it does something posative to save addtional plastic waste, its got to be better then nothing.

Fair enough if they want to rip us off when grocery shopping but am I the only one to think that when buying clothes it's only courtesy and common sense to wrap/bag your purchase.
I saw a woman at TK MAX pay over £60 for a dress only to be told she had to pay for a bag,she told the woman at the checkout what to do with the dress.
It's ok carrying re-usable bags to put some stuff in but if I buy something to wear(especially if it's expensive) I want it in a clean un-used bag as a matter of course.
    I don't think that's being unreasonable.

But you are still moaning and complaining over nothing...carry a bag with you and make a small donation to an environmental charity of you are really such a do-gooder.

They are only making a profit from you if you are lazy enough not to supply your own bag.

Agreed. Problem very easy to sort out AND you get to control which charity gets your little collection of coppers (put them all in a jar and donate once a QTR)

    I've been Money Tipped!
My friends husband manufactures plastic bags for retail stores and it's his belief that charging for bags is just another way for retailers to make a profit - they pay less than 1p per bag and then tax their customers by charging them - think about it they 'sell' thousands per day.

Well M&S say any profits go to charity, but none of the others say that- I would imagine it makes them a tidy profit so they can continue to discard thier excess packaging (when items arrive in stores to be put on shelves there is a scary amount of packaging- I know, I used to work in a store). Throwing away rubbish costs companies money- so they then have to find another way to re-coup that loss.

TK Maxx give all the money raised from selling plastic bags to the Woodland Trust.

    Look here:

    They also support other charities.

I bought several items from TKMaxx and didn't want to pay for a bag. Still, it kept the security guards busy for half an hour or so, following me round, and out of the store, as I left with an armful of unwrapped clothing. (I did have a bag in my handbag - I was just feeling a bit awkward!)
