thanks for all of the posts.

I think the idea of cardis rather than jumpers is a good thought.

Had not even thought about pe kit.

I have promised her a pair of 'yo-toy' shoes so that will be the best part of 40 quid. shocking.
Now I understand what the hell the two teachers at a dinner party I went to were on about - these are the shoes loads of schools have started banning.... I didn't understand it

DD's school never ban anything. They're so laid back it's not the truth and I'm so glad about it. My friend's children's school has even banned skipping ropes !!!!!!!! DD would be devastated if she couldn't take her skipping rope to school.

    Jxx
And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

I really wouldn't buy those shoes - the heel of the shoes is supported by the toy, when it is lost (and it will be lost, very quickly) there is a matchbox-sized hole in the heel of the shoe which I have seen collapse in some of the kids at school which makes me wonder what on earth Clarks were thinking - how is that good for the child's feet?

Agree about the Yo Toy shoes- waste of money! I'd just buy normal shoes then give her a pound for the poundshop! I bought my daughters last pair of school shoes in Marks and Spencers and they are brill! She's had them since January and they still look like new.

I find lots of shops do uniform in packs of 2, 2 skirts/trousers etc so usually buy 2 packs. Similarly tops often come in packs of 3 so buy 2 packs. I find Sainsburys school uniform good value and wait until they do one of their 25% off weekends to stock up. Tesco is good too and if you have Clubcard vouchers to use you can double up now to get vouchers for clothing.

those shoes are banned at out school...ridiculous idea from clarks IMO
I'd offer her a decent pair of proper shoes, & a small toy of choice to keep at home..not take into school & lose immediately!

Sainsburys has some school uniform on sale when I went yesterday. Packs of 3 boys & girls polo shirts for £1.75 (red, blue, & dark green), blue cardis & sweatshirts for £1, trousers for £2, girls dresses (both winter & gingham) £2.50. And a few other bits. This was close to the new school uniform section of virtually identical stuff that was full price.

Fewer cardis/jumpers (my daughter refused to wear a jumper so I'll get two cardis next year!) One each of the skirt/trousers/pinafore. Wait til later for summer dresses. I would say, you can never have too many polo shirts (I never buy long sleeved) or shirts. My daughter regularly comes home with whiteboard marker on them (the bane of my life as it appears nothing removes it) and they are often hard to get mid-term in smaller sizes. I buy everything easycare (to avoid ironing) except polo shirts and summer dresses, where I always choose cotton for comfort. Bear in mind, socks, if white, will not stay clean looking for long. Tights (and socks) usually shrink, so I buy a size larger and wash before wear.

Hi all just noticed someone posted about getting the "yo-toy shoes" DON'T, they are a total waste of money, got them for my DD for her 1st year at school (this year) within a few weeks she was crying saying her shoes hurt her, because they are always taking the stupid toy out!!, an eventually the insole gets all creased and hurts there feet, just get normal clarks shoes not the YO_TOY ones, they are not worth it,tell her they don't do them in her size it worked for me;).

I probably buy too much uniform but I like to know that if I plenty if I don't get chance to wash.
DS is in year 1 had has 3 pair of trousers, 3 sweaters, 6 polo shirts (but 3 were left over from reception and still ok) and 3 pairs of shorts. He also had the shoes from clarks with the toys and yes, he did lose the toy within weeks but the shoes have lasted well.

DD starts school in sept and I've started getting hers - she's going to have 2 skirts, 1 pinafore, 1 pair of trousers, 2 school cardigans, 1 plain cardigan and 1 sweater - not sure how many polo shirts yet and need to get a couple of summer dresses.

I second this about these Yo toy shoes - I brought DD a pair the July before she started school as she had been asking and her friend at nursery had a pair.
Within 2 weeks the insoles were all creased as described above and the outer's didn't fair much better - I put them in the bin before she started in September.
My son had a pair brought for him around the same time and they faired a lot better perhaps the boys version are a bit sturdier.
Either way a waste of money and not the usual Clarks standard :(

My two have each got 2 sweatshirts/cardis; 5 shirts and then 5 shorts for my son, 5 dresses/skirts for my daughter. They both have countless pairs of socks and tights but I buy the same plain socks for both of them so they can be paired up easily. I don't do a wash every day and they always come home filthy so I've got clean for each day (except the sweatshirts/cardis because they are £13 each!)

Mine only have 1 PE kit which is kept in school and washed every half term - sounds gross but it never actually comes home dirty or smelly.

I wish my children's school would let them bring them home less frequently than every week - as you say they are not dirty and smelly just a little creased (my children are only 5 and 6 years old)
I don't see the need to wash them every week
