Hi. I have a laptop i connect to the internet via wireless. When my laptop is put into standby and then started again, all the networks have disappeared. I refresh the network list but it tells me there are none. Basically, i can't put the lid down on my laptop or put it on standby for a while, i have to completely switch off and on again. Very annoying!
Any ideas??

What networks are you talking about? Network PC's, Network Shares or Wireless Networks0

Most PCs have several different standby modes. The most power-saving modes will typically turn off power to as many peripherals as possible, including USB ports and network cards, which then don't recover properly coming out of standby.
Check in the BIOS and see what "ACPI suspend mode" is selected - if it's set to S3(STR), try selecting S1(POS). If it's already set to S1 you may be out of luck, but no harm in trying alternatives just in case it helps...
{Edit: you may also find some options within the power management settings of your OS which allow peripherals to keep power in standby, but as you don't say which OS you have, that's just speculation]0 -
What laptop do you have?
Edit
I know the Sony NR series of laptops have this problem and require an update to the wifi software on the unit.0 -

Standby has always caused problems like the one's you describe. It may be worthwhile turning standby off and just configuring your power options so that the screen and HDD turn off.--

Is your laptop using windows to manage your wireless connections or some other app? I haven't come across this problem before and when I had a Vista laptop it worked fine.0

I had this problem with Vista, although with deleting my LAN IP settings rather than wireless.
Apparently no-one else in the world had the same problem and there was nothing on the web relevant to my version of vista... so I went back to XP :rolleyes:My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
In services make sure WLAN autoconfig/Zero Config networking is set to automatic and started.0

Probably what is happening is that the laptop is powering the wireless card down and not automatically powering it back up on resume (i've seen Dells do this a lot) you should have a hot key somewhere to toggle the wireless on/off turn it off/on and i'll bet that'll fix it.
There may well be a BIOS update on the manufacturers website that fixes this.
Don't go around changing your sleep settings from S3 to S1 as the power saving between the 2 is huge, ie S1 is rubbish and S3 is excellent so if you use S1 your battery will run down quicker than if using S30 -
At risk of reviving an old thread here but anyway...
Getting same issue as above on a tower PC, it used to be unreliable reconnecting the WiFi after a resume from sleep and often require a right click and 'Repair' on the Wireless icon.
Lately its got worse - never reconnects on Resume and 'Repair' results in a 'Fail' message and even a close-down and reopen of the Wireless connection fails, so have to reboot. So we've stopped using Sleep now which is is not very green - machine stays on all day now.
Due to not having a Windows sleep key on our preferred keyboard (another story) I already use DOS command to sleep it:
rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState
...was wondering if my solution would be to build the above command into a batch that disables the wireless first before the machine goes into suspended state?0
