MBNA / Virgin Existing Customer Offers

Rang Virgin to see what offers or deals I could get on my Virgin Card. Now bear in mind I am in solid employment, with no late payments, a decent credit limit, and a zero balance heres the response I got.

Balance Transfer Deals = None

Balance Transfer Fees = No deals. Offered at 5 %

Any APR reductions = No. The 18.9 % is the best rate for that account. (Even though standard rate is 16.9%)

So either its me, or they are tightening up. Has anyone been offered any deals in the last week?

Thanks

    Bad luck.

Not in the last week, but the most recent one only expired two weeks ago.

You could ask to be put through to the Retentions Dept.
Obviously, for this to work, you have to be prepared to close the account, if you don't get the BT deal/interest rate reduction you'd hoped for.

    Very best

Unfortunatly I was through to the Promotions team on the 0800 number that normal customer services give. What was the deal that recently expired? What fee were they applying?

    Thanks

Sorry for the long radio silence (Have to earn an honest crust)
It was 0% on purchases for 6 months.

Is this the number you tried: 0800 783 1116?
If not, I'd give that one a go ;)

MBNA have gone more water tight than a ducks bum. if you say close it, their response (in 7/10 cases) would be ok then, i will.
No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

    Thanks Oscar,

Why are they suggesting I open a new a new Virgin Card instead of bettering my deal? Is it something to do with the branding agreement or some other reason?

I got 6.9% lob deal 3% fee offer via the post last saturday
I have a deep burning indifference
  • I had an old virgin card that i'd had for a few years... In August/ Sept last year i wanted to see what I could get out of them... selected the automated option on the phone to close my account and got an immediate recorded message saying that the account would be closed within 7-10 days!! Didnt even speak to anyone!

!!!!!!... i ended up re-applying about 3 months later and getting all the deals I wanted. Didnt initially get as big a limit, but just asked for the same as I had last time and they re-upped it immediately having apologiesed for the appalling initial limit i got :-)
