Question Re Attachments

Forgive me if this is a thick question but, I've noticed at the bottom of my page that it says I am not allowed to post attachments.

What does this mean exactly? I have posted links to other sites. I presume this is OK.

Could someone please explain what this means to me.

On some forums you can post an "attachment" with a post. Pretty much like an attachment in an email message.

An attachment is a file. For example a pdf, Office, image etc document/file.

Rather than linking to a page/file on another site, when you attach a file you are actually including the file itself in the message.

In an email, you would be literally send the file in question itself along with the message to the recipient.

On a forum, it involves the file you want to attach being physically uploaded to the forum's server. So if MSE allowed attatchemnts the file you wanted to attach would be uploaded to MSE's own server.

Obviously attachments on a forum take up space on the hosts server, and also involve a security risk where they might contain something malicious. So it looks like MSE have taken the decision not to allow them.
