All credit cards will charge this cash advance fee plus interest from the day the money was bought to the day you pay the full amount back.

Visa debit cards will also charge the cash advance fee. Maestro debit cards are free.

No charges if you buy currency through M&S and user their credit card.

    That is specialised card though...

So O.K., there is 1 exception... But generally you are advised of the card HAVING this special feature then not having it and being charged.

Why would a debit card attract cash advance fee?

thats the thing you see, i thought buying money online would be the same as buying a cd from play.com, i would understand if i had gone to a hole in the wall..

Credit cards also consider using the card on gambling sites also as cash advance so in addition of buying a cd from play.com if you intend to PLAY be warned!

Because Visa charge the fee and the banks (apart from Nationwide) pass it on.

Yes - Visa fees I understand. Don't they use some term like "currency conversion fees" rather than "cash advance" to denote this fee? I have been using Nationwide all along so I have never had to bother about this :j
