The Queen and the Royal Family cost the taxpayer 69p

I wonder how much G.B. costs us per year, at least The Queen does not censor information like this government whilst secretly creaming off thousands.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Isn't it obvious?
They give everyone a feeling of pride due to their pure-bred British, err hang on, I mean German bloodstock..............
That's not fair. Prince Philip is Greek! The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us
Baby we were born to walk0 -
I'm sure more than 69p is misused from my TV licence fee to pay for executives expenses, junkets, jollys etc. and overpaid talentless "celebrities". MPs expenses, pensions, pay offs? Bank "bailouts" etc? - I'll not go there. So I really don't begrudge 69p/annum in spite of not being a royalist!.0

69p isnt to bad when you consider what we'd spend on a president which we would have to have as an alternative.
But its important to note that the 69p though doesnt cover all expenses such as transport and palace upkeeps. Also the costs could go up as i think the queen has a deal that runs until 2010, and the current 69p deal is based on 1990 levels.
We have to keep the monarchy, and even though it may only go up to £1.50 a head there is scope to "rationalise it" a bit.
Keep the Queen, and prince phillip, plus charles and camilla, and the boys, plus 2 corgies. Thats an heir and 2 spares, plus william and harry will have kids in the next few years i expect..... so who else do we need?
I think Princess Anne and Prince Andrew could go part time or become consultants, hired on individual state occasions as needed / sent on hand shaking tours as required.
Prince Edward, Andrews children, and the others like the Kents can be made redundant as cannot see their relevance. Only the duchess of kent handing over the wimbledon trophy seems to do anything, and she could easily continue to do that.
Buckingham Palace can certainly be opened more than two months a year. Maybe Prince Edward could give tours if he needs new employment.0 -
My 69p a year contribution gives me far more enjoyment than one Mars bar a year would..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -

1. where tf are you buying mars bars @69p - rip-off; unless you mean king [or should that be Queen, har, har] sized
2. If the royal family give you more enjoyment than a mars bar, then I would suggest you may be doing something wrong with the mars bar [have you tried eating it with a cup iof tea??]!!0 -
69p?! What a con! For a mere 39p from each of you 60 million oiks, I'll support an obscure charity, advocate some random pseudo-science, play polo and quite happily insult a foreign leader at least once a year. You can't say fairer than that!0

I think the thread has run its course, and i am going to lock the thread before any more monarch bashing begins.
