First Insurance
Hya peeps, my son is on the verge of taking his driving test, at the moment he is looking for a) an ideal 1st car that will still retain his street cred and b) a company that gives new young drivers the chance of cheap insurance. As anybody any suggestions. I cant believe some of the prices hes been quoted for the year, no wander youngsters dont bother insuring their cars, its cheaper just getting a fine (if your caught) than insuring the car

sadly he's going to have to buy a cheap and low powered car. The insurance for 1st drivers is a rip off, but stats show they are the ones who have the accidents. Try money supermarket...or opt for 3rd party with a high excess.0

We have tried confused.com but they are coming back with £4000 plus quotes and unless he goes fully comp he can,t alter his access. We,ll try money supermarket, thanx0

Try putting your name as a named driver on the insurance - it can bring down the quote."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Asking 1 17 year old to abandon street cred. could be tough, but here is your list of the cheapest cars to insure:
http://www.carpages.co.uk/car-insurance/car-insurance-group-1-1.asp
These essentially the same cars (same factory, same in all but body shell and interior trim) aren't too bad looking: Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1 (successor to the Saxo), Peugeot 107
Some of the cars in that list are only 3 cylinder engines, the Corsa I drove a while back with this engine is grim beyond belief.0 -

Please do yourself a favour and avoid Quinn if he has a provisional licence0

Insurance for youngsters is indeed a rip off as the insurance companies don't even give them a chance to be a safe driver before they slap them with a massive premium. Your son will have to decide what is more important, street cred or having to pay a huge amount which is esentially dead money if he is a safe (and lucky) driver.
Out of interest, what car were you looking at which came back as £4k? When I passed my test 10 years ago, I spotted a ford xr2 being sold for £300 which would have cost me £2,500 to insure lol0 -
He as not got a car yet, but he gets the quotes by going on confused.com, and putting in reg,s hes seen on ebay or autotrader or even in the street, a Peugeot 306 works out at a tad below £40000
