Michael Jackson Tickets

Hi

Was hoping for some advice as we're in a bit of a pickle. I bought 4 Michael Jackson tickets for the family and we were planning on going but we've just had a child and needed the money to do his room up etc. We therefore decided to sell them on eBay in the middle of march and got £1150 for them. Unfortunately as you all know, Jacko sadly passed away. I've had an email from the Buyer of the 4 tickets as expected requesting a refund immediately. However, we've spent the money and cannot afford to pay it back straight away. The Buyer stated in his email that they paid on a Credit Card and wanted the money back asap as they were paying interest on the money. I can obviously feel for the Buyer and wish I had the money laying around to give back straight away but I don't. It's been over 60 days since the auction so does that mean the Buyer has to go through his Credit Card to get a refund? And if so, how much time does this give us to save the money up? At present, we can only afford £50 a month back so it could take a while to clear. £1150 - £330 (what we paid for them) - £80 (ebay fees that will be refunded also) = £740. If Paypal forward this to debt collectors, will they want more than £50 given our circumstances and will this have an effect on our credit rating/report?

Would appreciate any suggestions and advice.

Thanks!

i think i read all the people who bought tickets were getting a refund so you should get the money back for buying them (although i may have read it wrong!)

if it is outwith the timeline for a paypal claim then i think they would have to go throught their card company to get their money back.

sorry for being so vague, just wanted to give you some kind of answer, hope someone else can be more of a help to you!

Hi there, just a quick reply, from what i can gather, if you bought your tickets from a legitimate seller, then you can claim your money back for the face value.

But if you bought them through sites like Ebay, like your Buyer did, then i don't think they have a claim at all.

at the end of the day, they bought and payed for 4 tickets and that is what they recieved..

    Hope this helps...

Unfortunately you have sold something you cna no longer supply, the decent thing would be to refund the buyer in full, maybe offer them part now and part in month.

However, as it stands the buyer can't do an awful lot simply through paypal as they are over the 45 day time frame for claims, so yes they would have to approach the credit card company if that is how they paid. If they do that then it could take weeks to get sorted, but ultimately paypal will put your paypal balance into a negative position and they will chase you for th emoney. Obviously anything now going into your paypal aco!!!! would be taken towards payment.

Ebay do have a new announcement today basically saying that where selelrs can't be forced to pay they themselves will settle, but no doubt that means they will be after you to repay them over time.

This is the problem with ticket touting, you may have sold them well intentioned but if you were the buyer what would you want done?

On what basis - they bought tickets to a concert, they were supplied with tickets to a concert, the concert being cancelled is not the sellers concern - their contract ended when the tickets were sent to the buyer.

Believe tickets for MJ Concerts have not been issued by the promoter.

OP does not say tickets were delivered to buyer and as per all the other threads there are actually very few tickets printed and despatched as yet.

I would still ask though, as a buyer would you be happy to be basically told 'hard luck'?

I think that it was said somewhere that buyers can claim through paypal

Paypal will then chase you for the money

The first of many threads along the same lines I expect....

eBay have said that they will refund all buyers in full if they paid via paypal, even beyond the normal 45 day limit - http://www2.ebay.com/aw/uk/200906271249112.html

This is likely to mean that ebay/paypal will reverse the funds from the sellers account, leaving it in negative if necessary.

As the tickets had not been issued to the original purchaser (the seller) by the time of his death, then the seller has not got anything to send to the buyer.

The original purchaser will be entitled to a full refund from the ticket agency though, the profit they made from the resale will have to be found again at some point to replenish the negative balance in paypal.

just out of interest (cos im really nosey!) if it went to a claims court etc would the seller have to pay the full value of the price they sold them for or the face value?

Just to clear up a few points above.. I have not sent the tickets to the Buyer as I hadn't received them. I bought them from TicketMaster. To be honest, I really do sympathise with the Buyer and I know if I was in his position, I would expect a refund as soon as possible. I'm not disputing the fact that I need to pay all this money back, but hoping for as much time as possible in which to do so. I'll get £330 back from TicketMaster and £80 back from eBay which I'll give back to the Buyer straight away. It's the other £700 I owe them that I need to save up. When my Paypal balance goes negative, how long will they give me to pay it back if I'm making regular payments towards the amount and will this have an effect on my credit report?
