That's not going to happen. Was hoping I could have a couple of beers on the DWP there :D Oh well, never mind...

btw, hypothetically, does that mean that if I earned £70 in a week I would be £4.30 worse off than if I earned £69.30?
    No. It doesnt.

One more thing - it makes sense to do all the work within 1 week, so only 1 week's benefit gets impacted. What classes as a 'week' for JSA purposes? If I sign in on Weds, does a 'week' run from Weds to Tues? Thanks.

Yep, your benefit week ending day is the day on which you sign

    Um, no sorry, misread.

Your benefit week is thurs - weds.

If you work Monday to Friday, doing 5 hours a day, you would be working 15 hours in one week and only ten in the second. That would simplify things. If it turns out that you do more than 16 or more hours in one week but quite a bit less in the other remind them that it can be averaged out over the two to make sure your claim stays open.

Some processors are trigger happy and will close the claim on seeing that 16 hours have been done rather than average it over two weeks so that only 8 hours count each week.

    Calculating average hours

    average weekly hours1.

Thanks - so if I did 7hrs on Thurs and 7 on Fri, that would be 14hrs within a week, and I shouldn't need to sign off?

Yes, so long as it is calculated correctly by DWP.
