Hi All,
As the title says I am discharged from bankruptcy and would really like a cheque book. No overdraft, no debit card, nothing else just a bog standard account with a cheque facility.
I already have a co-op cashminder account which is ideal but lacks the cheque book.
I have applied for Natwest basic account but got turned down due to BR being on my file. I was gonna give it a month or so before I done the credit file clean up so any ideas in the mean time?
And yes I really do need a chequbook, I know there are alternatives.
Cheers

I'd say you'd have to wait it out, if Natwest aren't giving you a basic account then i doubt other banks will be different.0

You wont get an acc with chq book for a few years.0

The basic account from Norwich and Peterborough comes with a cheque book. You have to apply for the full account and then tick a box asking for the basic one if you are declined.0

Why not open a savings account with an old style building society whereby they issue cheques for free.0

Strange it should be a problem getting a cheque book. (I had one with Girobank when I was 15.) Cheques can always bounce if there are insufficient funds.
I could understand a bank not wanting to issue a cheque guarantee facility.0 -
I would try and wait a month or so untill your credit file cleans up a bit then you will be in a better possition. No point in applying now for loads of accounts only to be rejected and have all those searches on your account0

Halifax and Nationwide will write the cheques for you if you have a basic bank account with them however the money comes out of your account straight away that might be an option.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0

I must agree what has been posted, I have a good basic account with Yorkshire Bank and a Maestro card BUT it's miles away! Same with the Co-op, so years after discharge, still declined for a basic Abbey and LTSB, they are about 10 mins walk from me too:o0
