Back on-topic: if anyone here is considering saving money by getting a 32-bit operating system with their new PC, there really is no point as not only can you use your Windows Vista license key with either, you can avoid the question of cost entirely by installing something like Ubuntu instead!

Apple have always been the ones to watch when it comes to abandoning older technology (sometimes irritatingly so).

Anyone who thinks 32 bit will be around for years might like to reflect that Apple computers and Mac OS X have been 64 bit for years now.

It won't be long before Windows is the same way too.

As a non apple user I can only look on with envy as Apple abandon older technologies :(

I truly wish microsoft would be so bold :(

I remember there was a guy on here a few weeks ago complaining that his parallel port printer wasn't supported under vista !!!!!!!

Think your license is tied down to the bit version - remember reading that somewhere

not for windows vista (& possibly server 2008 & win7) as i seem to remember reading somewhere that vista keys work on both the i386 (x86) & amd64 (x64) versions eg a home premium key should work fine on both x86 & x64 editions of win vista.

however, i'm not so sure if it works on OEM keys printed on COA's on the side of machines from the likes of dell/hp etc

Good plan. I've got a spare machine so I'll try and get a 64 bitified version of what I'm running now.
Working OK so far. Got Avira running. Need to test my hardware now...

Microsoft Fingerprint Reader doesn't work - no support for Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit). Nice one :(

Sandboxie isn't going to work on 64 bit. Can't decide if it is worth the effort to do my surfing in a VM.

It is quicker though, and I get to use my full 4GB RAM. Still lots more to test before "cheap windows 7 day"

bear in mind it's still a beta!
ms fingerprint thing is a surprise...you'd expect them to get their own stuff working
sandboxie I already know is a problem...I first heard of the program when I was running vista x64 and discovered no x64 support...so I've never actually used/tried it (cba with a x32 vm)

My mobile (Sony Ericsson p910i) now connects after some 3rd party 64-bit drivers and overriding the "signed drivers only" feature.

Outlook 2007 works over https (RPC) after a registry tweak.

Glad I gave myself 2 weeks to test now! :(
