In the future, I agree but for a home user just to use email surfing, blah blah blah, are you getting it yet?

    :)

but you cant buy a competative 32bit cpu anymore, and windows 64 doesn't cost more then the 32bit version, so why hold back the death of 32 bit desktop operating systems for almost no benefit and the additional confusion of your average consumer.

    Should the question be rephrased?

"What, if any, are the advantages of sticking with windows x32?"

..only ones I can think of are support for OLDER hardware and some OLDER software...but there may be more. I have currently 5 running machines in my house..the lastet 3 all run x64 (2x vista 1x 7) and the other 2 both run xp32..I cannot justify the cost of another licence to go x64 on these older machines, one of which wouldn't run x64 anyway (

I changed my car radio to one incorporating an MP3 cd player + bluetooth...but I did lose the capability to play audio tapes...if my entire music collection was on tape that would have been a foolish move..but it's not, so I'm ok. I see this as analgous to the current debate, and feel everyone should go x64 UNLESS they have compelling reasons to stay x32.
(and I'm saying this from a position of having CRT TVs and no intention to change them for the forseeable future as I only have SD sources)

money saving would compel anyone to stay 32, especially if the budget means that only a secondhand PC can be afforded, but I agree with what you say, with this in mind I have always stated money and usability, some people find that to much of a difficult concept to grasp.
    :)
Not entirely sure I understand the money saving aspect on a newer machine (as the price for x32 and x64 is/was identical..if, as mentioned earlier, the 2 are to be licenced separately then buying win7 x32 is a move which could easily be regretted in a year or 2 when x64 is more mainstream )

..but I've just realised...have any of us asked the OP if his/her machine will support x64..I know it's likely...but...
