problems with o2 Nokia 5800 Grade-A refurb, another mobile??2nd class post to return
hi,
I need some advise regarding returning a mobile phone to o2.
the whole thingy, i will put it as short as possible.
i am on a sim only contract with o2, within a week into contract I bought a reboxed Nokia 5800 at a one off payment. Phone arrived but had no battery in it. They sent the battery though post. I noticed phone is switched off on its own every 10-15 mins and i had to manually start it every time.
after having a word, i was asked to swap the phone and battery at my door step, i duly did. This time the proximity sensor does not work. I called o2, who offered me an option whether i want to swap it for another nokia 5800 or any other mobile. I said i want a different mobile to it.
1. Have I made a right decision to avoid another nokia 5800? if i made right decision what phones should i be aiming at? has anyone done this before?
2. I was asked to send a second class post (free postage) to them. is it ok to send this expensive mobile through a second class post? have anyone does this without any problems? can any experienced advise me on this please?
any response/recommendations/siggestions are hightly valuable to me. please help.
regards,
Baldude.

send it recorded through the post office, i have heard only good reports with the 5800, so id try one more, unsure which phone to sugest as a replacement though0

Which phones are they offering as a replacement? I like my 5800, but can see things that currently seem quirky, eventually becoming problems. However, I cannot think of any equivalent phone I would rather have.Gone ... or have I?0

I am pretty much sure problem is not with the phone.
problem is with the o2's refurbished handsets.....they are supplying flawed handsets to me.0 -
I've got a 5800 and its excellent no problems0

I love my 5800, it was a little quirky at first, but since I updated the firmware I have had no problems with it, even the battery seems to be lasting 6+ days inbetween charges...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Thanks for everyone's thoughts.
I have decided to ask for another nokia 5800.
I really liked the mobile pretty much and i still love it....the only downside is o2 they are providing me some rubbish quality phones....hope this time i receive a good one....0 -
I had 3 5800's and they all had problmems namely a larhe gap on the top right hand corner this was when they first came out so should have been sorted but this affected thousands of models. Make sure you check this when you get another as I was told by Nokia they did not know if this would affect the phone in the future dust getting in etc.0

I think general rule is that after 3 swaps you will be given a choice whether to go for another branded mobile altogether....did you chose any other mobile?I had 3 5800's and they all had problmems namely a larhe gap on the top right hand corner this was when they first came out so should have been sorted but this affected thousands of models. i think you were right about the old models. both the mobile i had received had a firmware on them V11....which is quiet old as i know its the v21 that is latest now.0
