    I already have a job.

I only became eligible for IS when my ex suddenly stopped paying maintenance and as the IS was more than he paid me, it made sense to claim.

I can just about manage on my wage but I was going to contact the CSA when the IS stopped.
It's a shame you didn't mention this is your first post.

How many hours are you doing?

Can you not increase them or get another job to make them to 16 so you can get WTC?
  • I've been in this job for six years, so IS is a top-up.

    I work 7.5 hours a week and earn around £200 a month.

That's been the aim, but despite applying for lots of jobs, I haven't been successful yet, probably due to me being off work for 9 months a while ago as I was having chemo.

In that case you will need to now claim JSA as a top up, with a view to working more hours.
    Gone ... or have I?

The JC have a 'ready reckoner' to calculate when your IS will end.
You will get plenty of notice - approx 8 weeks before this date, you should get a letter (and a phone call) informing you of an appt booked for a date around 6 weeks before the end date....

The best thing to do (as previously mentioned) is ring the JC & they can give you an exact date.

Your IS end date doesn't just depend on your last WFI date but also the date of birth of your youngest child, as well as how often you attend & your payday!!

    Give them a bell!!

You will be transferred onto JSA, if you don't want to go onto JSA that's up to you but I am afraid that unless you are too ill to work you won't be eligible for anything else to top it up.

You mention chemo..... are you capable of more work? Because if you are not, perhaps you should be claiming ESA.

It depends on the basis of which you are currently claiming IS. If you are claiming it on incapacity grounds, then it will continue for as long as you are unable to sustain full time employment, or until all current IS (Incap) or incapacity benefit claimants are automatically transferred to ESA which will be in the next few years. If you are claiming on the basis of being a lone parent then you will need to be claiming JSA (or ESA if unfit to work more hours) once IS ceases.
  • I've just been claiming it as a lone parent.

All I wanted was for somebody who has had their IS stop due to their youngest child turning 12 to tell me if they were contacted 8 weeks prior to the benefit stopping.

Getting a job anywhere, other than increasing the hours where I already work, is going to be pretty difficult due to the time I've had off and current health problems which require attending hospital regularly but do not qualify me for any sickness related benefit.

I actually work as part of the JC admin team who arrange these appts - I can safely say that you WILL be contacted..... believe me!!!!
