Freesat on Sky dish questions

Hi All.

Just need confirmation if I can do this or not.
I have a standard sky dish, with just one wire from the LNB. If I was to
replace the LNB with a multiple outlet one, could I then run a wire to a freesat box in the bedroom and it not interfere with the sky installation downstairs?

Also are all the LNB's you can buy, pretty much the same.

As answered already, it's easy to up the LNB to a multi use one.

Are they all the same, No. You can get lower db rated ones that can recieve weaker signals, but assuming you have a standard Sky dish then you probably have a .6db LNB and almost any will do as a replacement. I'd suggest you buy a quad .6DB, Mine cost £7 on ebay, that way you have 2 extra ports you can use later if you decide to add in more recievers or upgrade to Sky Plus or a Freesat PVR. You can just leave them sealed up and add the cabling later on.
There very little difference in cost between a twin .6db LNB and a quad.

Also bear in mind if you move the Dish whilst fitting the LNB (ie if it's stuck on with crud and you have to force it off) you may need to tweak the dish if you move it too far.
You probably won't but bear it in mind and be gentle removing the old LNB

No, the fittings vary quite a lot. There's at least three different "spigot" types for Sky dishes (Sky introduced a new one in May). Non-Sky dishes use a fourth type of fitting.

True, but im my experience the LNB usually comes with a collar (or they sell it as an extra!) that fits into the standard arm.

If it's a standard sky dish the arm is pretty standard, especially on the black pierced oval Raven type dishes. If it's really old and a round dish all bets are off...
