I loathe vinegar so don't have any idea about it, but as my sister can't eat eggs, i make eggless cakes, so far I've used recipes that don't use vinegar, but was thinking of getting some as it's so useful, but what do I get?
not sure what you want the vinegar for but white vinegar is best for cleaning (it's not actually white at all, it looks like water!) but for cooking I use whatever the recipe calls for. I generally keep cider vinegar and malt vinegar in the pantry, plus sometimes red and/or white wine vinegar
Edited to say: I've seen a few posts asking for ideas for using courgettes; just found this courgette recipe and added it to the GC Recipe Index... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Thanks Mooloo. We are away for 22 days but will have internet access, as staying with relies. Didn’t even occur to me that I could order my groceries online in Oz & have them delivered to me when I get home!
I love Oz! I spent two months out there earlier in the year for part of my degree. Fantastic place (also explains, partially, why I'm sooo skint!), have a great time!
£1.70 spend for me today - loaf of bread and a big bottle of water (I'm not drinking enough and what comes out of our taps here is gross!)April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200 -
Re Mr M half price haddock as previously posted:-
OH went to get some as promised this morning about 11 o'clock and just about got the last of it!
He bought three packs, cost £7.61 but the fillets were huge so I portioned them into 8 individual portions working out at under £1 for each and prised them into the freezer - really cannot buy anymore meat, fish, veggies or in fact anything for freezing until some space is made  - shame as saw ad on TV last night that someone (Mr T?) is doing half price beef;)
Need to update signature again but hope this will be the last at least until next weekend!!0 -
A home delivery shop from Tesco on Friday evening means Im over budget by £73.70
and we still have about 10 days of July left.....
I STILL forgot things so there may be an emergency visit to sainsburys required today ...
Im cross with myself. Home delivery shop on Friday was done at the last minute because I couldnt be bothered to go to the supermarket myself. They also sent a very bashed box of cornflakes and some very bruised apples  Ive e-mailed a complaint but await to hear.....
Although Ive overspent this month, I am well stocked. Both freezers full but when you look in them there never seems to be anything you can throw together at the last minute and I know I have bought stuff (thus spending money unnecessarily )that I already have hidden in my outside freezer but Im just too lazy to try and find!
I know planning is the key so I must try to be more organised and I might try and do a food plan later.
It would be quite interesting to do the bread, milk, spud and loo roll challenge i.e. buy nothing but these items unless absolutely necessary i.e. cat food.
hope everyone is having a better month than me0 -
Oh dear. I've failed miserably to keep up with the thread this month. I'm also failing pretty miserably with the challenge as only have around £20 left in the pot til Friday
- and this is despite me adding in some extra so I could do a bulk cat food order, which I haven't done! We might just be able to squeak through on our £20 though. OH is making a lasagne for this evening, which will also do us for tomorrow (though one of us is going to have to pop out for milk and cheese shortly). Tuesday I am out with work and meeting some clients who want to take us out for a chinese for lunch, so I shouldn't be very hungry in the evening. OH can raid the stores. Stores should also provide for Wednesday and Thursday.
It's amazing how easily it is to slip back into bad habits just from a few months away from the challenge! Back at the start of the year, my weekly shopping was £40-£50, now it's £70-£80  I'm sure that's not just higher food prices! Ah well, we'll get back on track again, I'm sure. You can do anything, make anything, dream anything. If you change the world, the world will change.0 -

Hi everybody,
I spent £8.24 yesterday on my weekly shop. So I have spent a total of £76.90 this month. I only have £3.93 left out of my budget. However, I get paid on friday. I am not going to declare yet, but fingers crossed.

hi everyone
I'm pleased with myself. Went to Sainsbury's to buy some laundry detergent and vinegar for cleaning. I spent £0.13p on the vinegar, £0.65 on laundry powder, and £0.84 on Liquid Laundry Detergent: a grand total of £1.62!! and nothing else!
Cheers

Evening everyone
Well I've had an MSE weekend but its been sooooo boooooring!!! :rotfl:
Was tempted to go to the Next Sale but remained strong and stayed away as I don't really need anything and didn't like much of their summer stock anyway... It would have meant a 50 mile round trip, car parking fee, a cup of coffee in town (plus a slice of cake probably), and goodness knows how much spent on unnecessary clothes... So quite pleased with myself.
So instead I stayed in my own town and went to a couple charity events and the local flower show.Popped to the local co-op for cake ingredients so I can do some batch cooking. Today I was so boooored that I gave my kitchen a blitz. I emtied every cupboard and drawer and had a really good sort out. It was quite theraputic and I didn't spend anything!
Has anyone else noticed some really odd pricing in MrT lately? You have to be really careful because on some things (can't remember what exactly) two smaller packs are working out cheaper than the larger packs and some branded products are cheaper than MrT. Got to take some cat food pouches back as they're full of air and gravy with no meat chunks in them!
Anyway sorry about the long post and big hugs to Coxy and all of us Mums who feel exactly the same... My DS(15) regularly comes home having not eaten his packed lunch which drives me MAAAD!:mad:Mortgage Free in 3 part 2 challenge - pay off £9000

Hi Elantan,
I am a bit concerned about the amount of protein in your diet, there doesn't seem to be much, try chucking in a few chick peas or something.
Thinking long term you will get a bit bored of soup for lunch, why not try a noodle salad.
I see you have a few asian foods in your store cupboard,do you have an asian supermarket locally? these are always worth visiting as you could certainly pick up things like spinach much cheaper.
as a vegi you could stock up an some store cupboard essentials.
Do you have any areas where you know you are still overspending, snacks or nibbles?
these don't have to be excluded, you just need to plan carefully.
you don't seem to make many meals that you and oh can eat together after you have done a vegi to meaty convertion.
for example you have tomato and basil pasta(with pine nuts maybe?) then chuck a couple of meat balls in the sauce for O.H.
Batch cook lasagne,1 meaty 1 vegi then cool and cut into individual portions, freeze and then when needed take out one of each to reheat, you can then both have garlic bread and salad with it.0
