    Stilton
    Cheddar cheese

Two fine cheeses but the french have plenty to match

    Scottish raspberries

Why just scottish and what about tayberries but the French grow a fair bit of fruit as well

    Welsh lamb

The french are more creative with it

    English cream tea

Now I do have to give you that one as long as it is a good home made one from the west country

    Apple pie

Probaly made with granny smiths instead of bramleys knowing the average british housewife:rolleyes:

    Roast beef and Yorkshire puddings

Usually overcooked with tasteless yorkies from aunt bessie

    Craster kippers

    French also have smoked fish

    Chicken Tikka Masala :p:p:p

Yes and how many people know this is a creation from Glasgow and not India.:rotfl:

Additionally, we've been happy to take what we like from other cultures so have a diverse cuisine now :D
Here we have chicken in the slow cooker over there they have coq au vin. They have tarte aux pommes. We have pancakes with abit of lemon and honey or sugar. They make crepes with everything you could and couldnt imagine plus they have savoury ones calle gallettes
Go to an Enlish cake shop and then compare with a patissserie:rotfl:
Our kingsmill sliced pap versus their rustic loaf definitely frogs 1 brits 0
We have to face it we are crap in the food stakes
Who I am is not important. What I do is.

If we had the shops and markets that they have in France, I think we all would be shopping daily for our food.I cant believe all the french women are stay at home mums or housewives though, so I am betting that many of them do shop once a week .
You cant really compare us with another country and then condemn us for not doing as they do, when we dont have the provison to do so.
Once a week shopping works once you get organised and does save you from spending money you havent planned to part with.

French housewives tend to food shop almost every day and that way their food is fresh and tasty. its OK I suppose saving money by shopping once a week if you like serving crap. french women are also much more aware of how to cook, what to cook and when to cook plus they also know where their food comes from

What a very odd post , presumably you can back this up , or is it just something you have 'read' ? ........ and are you going to share with us your shopping and cooking habits?

Shopping everyday doesnt always mean your food is fresh , it really depends on how long the food has taken to get to and been sat in the shop , frozen food , and by that i dont mean frozen processed food , is frozen at its best , ie frozen fish , frozen at sea is far fresher that fish that has been caught and hasnt been landed that day . frozen veg are 'fresher' the veg in the shops as veg loses its goodness pretty quickly .

Strange the subject of how the French shop and cook should come up.

I do not agree with the assumption that doing a weekly supermarket shop means you will eat rubbish. Complete tosh. I don't agree that it means you will inevitably eat stale food either. I shop once a week at a supermarket and visit the butcher and farmshop for fresh stuff. I do not eat rubbish or stale food.

However I am off to France tomorrow for a week and I intend to shop daily for my food (with some eating out naturally, I'm on holiday after all). I won't have my storecupboard of good quality dried goods (pulses, grains, spices etc) or my well-stocked freezer (fish, veg, berries) so it'll be a case of buying fresh ingredients every day for our evening meal and picnic lunches plus bread for breakfast.

It will be interesting to see if I spend less and waste less. Will let you know.

I can confirm that this is the case. I have talked to my French teacher (a genuine French woman) and she says that most women there work full-time just like here and a weekly supermarket trip is routine. She does say there is less rubbish and ready meals in their supermarkets and more ingredients and that a good bakery is always round the corner.

By the way she also says that French women do get fat;)

I reckon the 'french housewives ' that our friend is referring to just lack the foresight and ingenuity to be able to plan for a week of healthy well balanced family meals so have to resort to daily shopping.
