I never have and never will be "serving crap" In addition to buying, preparing and freezing food which I buy from a local butcher and supermarket I also top up supplies with veg from an allotment, fruit from a local organic cooperative and fruit which is delivered every day to a local greengrocers.
    Mon Dieu!
If you really want fresh good food then you have to shop It appears everything is local to you so why the problem with a walk to the shops it doesnt cost anything:confused:

GC a bit off this week as was BH here so away for weekend and then out for t twice, but thats a dif budget. Not doing too badly this month.
Mu mum gave me half a bag of leeks, half a bag of carrots and half an aubergine! Normally only use leeks for soup/stock or fried with mushrooms so at a bit of a loss.
Goin to put the aubergine in a lasagne tonight...should work I think! With garlic bread from the freezer.
Will look for what to do with carrots and leeks that isn't soup!

    Morning all,

Just to say that I tried the sticky chicken recipe yesterday in my SC and it was lovely. Some leftover as well, so that's lunch sorted!

Feeling a bit low today. Made egg mayo rolls for the childrens lunches as the ham/turkey/cheese has all gone. Don't think I've given them egg mayo for about a year. Anyway DH was moaning about the smell - he thought it was the drains(!) - and gave me a bit of a hard time about it. Just feeling fed up that I'm trying my hardest to keep out of the shops as we simply don't have the funds. Ended up in tears - stupid really - but sometimes it just feels like I'm swimming against the tide. I try to be imaginative with meals, I meal-plan, I budget, and still I get moaned at! I actually said perhaps he thought there was a grocery pixie who did the shopping because I've been working, trying to keep on top of the washing/ironing, plus making sure the kids have what they need each day for school (swim kit, piano books etc. etc.) AAAHHHH

    Sorry for the rant.

    Coxy

French housewives tend to food shop almost every day and that way their food is fresh and tasty. its OK I suppose saving money by shopping once a week if you like serving crap. french women are also much more aware of how to cook, what to cook and when to cook plus they also know where their food comes from

Are you for real or is your attempt at being a pompous pillock a wind up ?:rotfl:

I normally end up with some leftover leek after making my thick vegetable soup - and I don't use them for anything else as no-one else in the family would touch them (if they could be seen)

But I've started using them in place of onions in mince dishes (when I have some - I don't buy them specifically for this), and DS hasn't noticed ;)

But you said the weekly shop was the way to go:confused: in post one and you were wasting money. now you say you walk to the shops and that is free so i cant see why you think a weekly shop which inevitably means stale food is the way to save money.
having a list and only buying what youi need might well save money but not the fact of shopping weekly as that will sacrifice quality. and may even get you buying pap like ready meals

You are very rude. Anyway to clarify. I like the weekly supermarket shop for basics. That avoids impulse buying and I have successfully saved money this month.
I also like to feed myself and my family good food so I walk to a local butchers . I then cook and freeze some of the food. I also walk to local friut and veg outlets and similarly cook and freeze some of the food.
Frozen is not the same as stale.
I don't eat crap or pap.
    Comprendez?

No it is not a wind up. have you ever been to france and seen what goes on in the shops and supermarkets. Places like intermatrche, Geant E'leclerc all have way more fresh produce daily than tesco because the french women is more discerning when it comes to buying quality. They also have a greater variety because they know that the shoppers know how to cook and prepare meals.
See how many bernard matthews products sell in france compared to the UK :rotfl:
Do the French producers get away with things like the M & S advert for line caught Lochmuir salmon when there is no such place as lochmuir:rolleyes:
