Hotel needed for Great North Run - 19th Sept 09 (North East Area)

In short, we've tried laterooms, no joy. All booked up.

Apart from looking outside the area, durham, darlington, south shields etc its not looking good.

Anyone have any more ideas.?

Most i think i can travel is from Durham on the day by train.

We have a car,so would plan to drive up as sitting on a bus for that distance is not for me.

Ideally id like to stay within a commute to the metro system, currently looking at one in Peterlee, Hartlepool area which is a 20min drive to sunderland and can hop on the metro from there.

Spent a few years up that area, so trying to get somewhere where i can get into newcastle and back with no hassle of getting buses etc.

We'll keep mailing, and looking but i think its time to book now..

Oh, we did find a nice castle, but the train times from darlington were not good enough. Want to be in newcastle for about 9-30am to get to the start line about 10am. Race starts at 10-40am.

Train times for the 20th September come out tomorrow i hope, so then we can look at that, but otherwise its as close to newcastle / sunderland area as i can.

I do have a tent though, and can sleep in a field by the side of the road if needed.

When we did the great North Run stayed for a long weekend (Thursday to Monday) in a cottage at North !!!!!burn near Crook. Drove to Durham on race day on took the special bus to the start which took 20mins approx. It drops you off at the start and picks you up at the finish and takes you back to your car.

Hope you find somewhere good to stay.

We had a wonderful time, the atmosphere on race day is great. In fact the whole weekend was wonderful. I've booked the same place for this year although not running myself this time.

We have found a nice castle to stay in near darlington for under £65 for the double / twin inc breakfast. We wanted somewhere closer ideally.

Its a little far to drive to sunderland area to catch the metro, staying at darlington in the above castle would be nice, but in reality we want to be about 15-20mins off the metro system. Wanted to be at the start for about 10am for a 10:40am start. I have a habbit of being late.

The plan was, travel from sunderland by metro. Arrive in newcastle centre, say bye to the wife as she departs for south shields. I finish the course, meet up with her. Then we get the train to sunderland again, and drive home from there. Keeping out of the traffic.

No not yet, i think we have realised that getting accomodation within 20-30miles of the start is bad, prices have shot up from £60 upto £250 for the 1 night.

I think the choice will be to stay somewhere outside of the area, hartlepool, middlesborough etc and travel up the A19 for 25mins to catch the 8-30am train. But if we leave it too late, we might not even get that..

Ok, train times are up for the sunday.

There are trains available now from Darlington & Durham.
