Compensation from B&Q

B&Q have messed us about with the fitting of our £7500 kitchen, we ordered in Oct 05 they started fitting 9 Jan still waiting for them to finish. We have jobs not finished or bodged and they say now that it will be finished on 24 April and will discuss compensation with us after the job is finished.
I just wondered if anyone had been given compensation from B&Q?
Thanks
Flo

I don't honestly know about B&Q but we got compo from MFI for a wrong/late/damaged kitchen delivery. They kept telling us we wouldn't get any, thats until hubby said he'd see if watchdog would be interested in doing a piece on their shoddy customer service.

Once its done to your satisfaction (not theirs...yours) keep on at them for the compo. Its no joke being without a kitchen so don't let them get away with it. Also keep records of telephone conversations, date/time/person you spoke to.

    Good luck

Your experience of a new kitchen through B & Q sounds like a carbon copy to that of my friend. When it was eventually finished he did get compensation, although I haven't a clue how much.

From memory, I think he made a written chronology of events and took it from there, so he had something concrete to refer to, as opposed to just saying the he wan't happy with the time scale involved for them to actually complete the job to a satisfactory standard.

So it would have read something like

    ordered kitchen on blah date
men arrived to start work on blah date
told 2 of cupboards were the wrong size and more ordered on blah date
took another 5 weeks until the right cupboards arrived on blah date
realised the handles were not the ones I ordered on blah date and more were ordered but out of stock
    etc etc

Thanks, I just want it finished now, they have already offered us £150 for some marked units but they said this will be above and beyond any compensation they offer us when the kitchen is complete. As they suggested the compensation I am hoping they follow through, not sure if they are talking pennies or pounds though. No matter what happens I would rather chew my own leg off than use them again. Their customer service is a joke, you get throught to Ireland who are then trying to put you through to SW England!
  • BnQ are crap I got a kitchen off them last year, delivery came as arranged, good good, all hunky dory then my kitchen went to put my worktops in, turned out they had whats known as a technical fault, they are the mock granite black high gloss worktops and they were full of lumps and bumps. I rang them and found out they couldnt deliver till the following week, ohg champion, no kitchen , no sink for me then, but I thought it cant be helped. So, the next week the work top arrives, guess what exactly the same flaw!!! Aurghhh. I got my kitchen fitter to give me a quote for the extra days labour- to fit the worktops, and rang the customer services dept. The yreefunded me in ful the extra "cost" and also £200 compensation. I'd say go for the compensation, honestly no wonder their profits have dropped. If I remember rightly the guy I dealt with was called Adam Horscroft and he was spot on really helpful, unlike some of the !!!!!y women I had the misfortune to speak to.
    Good luck!!

Ive also suffered as a result of getting my kitchen from B&Q, i purchased it in december and were now in april and im still waiting for some of it, there was a warehouse fire apparenty so 1 day before mine was due 2 be delivered in feb i got a call tellimg me i wasnt getting it.....to cut a long story short i kicked off, threatened 2 call trading standards (and they said go ahead) then i contacted the manager of the store instead of the dam call centre ppl, and i was offered compensation of 10% of my total order..., 2 weeks later i recieved a telephone call fromthe complaints team, who also said my cheque was in the post... so i ended up with compensation of £200

My neighbour however is still waiting for her compensation , they keep promising to ring her but never do, my advice is keep hassling them, i did and it paid off.

    loops:)
