Nothing has changed regarding taking full and proper observation at all times, are you sure that you are the right person to be taking her out?;)

I am just sitting in with her really to build up her confidence I just need to know when to remind her about her mirrors I like many probably would not pass a test now when I passed my test many cars did not have wing mirrors and you only used rearview mirror and looked round for blind spots I know now they do have to use wing mirrors which I do but not sure if it would be to test standard
  • A sound piece of advice I was given was that before you move your hands or your feet, cvheck at least one mirror.

If you are moving in order to prepare for or make a turn, you should first check the mirror of the side you are turning into, then rear view, then the oppostire side. If you are moving to change gear, brake due to traffic or to slow down or to move around corners, you need to check your rear view first and then other mirrors if appropriate.

She needs to be aware at all times of everything around her, so needs to make mirror checks on that basis.

You can check if she is observing things by asking what was the last traffic sign you passed at random, that will verify if she is observing fully.;)

One tip I was given was to move the rear-view mirror so that it was ever-so-slightly "off" from your normal driving position, so that you had to make a noticeable head movement to see it (rather than flicking your eyes) - that way the examiner can see that you are checking it.

Dunno if that still holds true though, I'm talking over 15 years ago!

the old Mirror Signal Manouver saying helped me remember - also my driving instructor told me that when the test man gets in the car - check all mirrors and move the rear view mirror so its ever so slightly off SO that when you check it you physically move your head to emphasize the fact you are checking it if that makes sense!

My Daughter passed her test last week, one of the things for her also was mirrors, her instructor kept having to remind her.

So before her test we just told her before you do anything check your mirrors, it's better to over check than not at all. She said that because we had kept drumming it into her she was automatically checking them all the time, it worked she passed with only 5 minors :j

I think alot of it depends on the examiner and what mood they are in :(

    Good luck hope she passes.

She needs to check her mirrors before making any manoevres (sp), signals, when passing any change of speedlimit signs, when changing lanes, when pulling out to go around parked cars etc.

I sat my minbus test on Friday (and passed!). I have driven a car for 5 and half years, and being taught to drive the minibus really highlighted flaws in my driving! So if you have been driving for years you may find that you are not bes placed to give her advice (that's not a criticism!).

Just tell her to be super observant. And to make sure she moves her head to look in mirror, you need to make the examiner know that you have looked. If you just glance he/she may not tell that you have actually looked.
