I ordered at 2:37pm on 22nd and got my order declined.

Bearing in mind that I was waiting to get on the Tesco Entertainment site that day I know that it wasn't live until after some time after 11:30am, did anyone order before this time???

By this we know they were sold out in at least 3 hours of going live. My instinct is that as Woolies etc didn't have this title, that it was never actually available to Tescos in the first place and was an error? :-/

How likely is is that they made more than one error though..especially after the gamecube fiasco? We're talking at least 3 titles so far..the David Beckham game, the Star wars one and the Disney skate one.I ordered about 7pm on the 22nd.If yours was declined at 2.37pm that day that would suggest that they knew at that time there was no stock so why accept others after that? I'm no techy but surely it woudln't take that long to correct misleading price information on a website?
  • I haven't received any cancellation email yet, but fully expect to get one after reading the other posts.  If I do I will complain to my local Trading Standards about the dubious practice of deliberately advertising massive price reductions which THEY KNOW they cannot stock.  If this was advertised in the press rather than on the web then the ASA would roast Tescos for such appalling behaviour, but because it's the internet they don't want to know.

You're quite right they seem to be able to get away with alot more online than they would be able to in "real life".

It won't stop me complaining to them, Tesco are getting too frequent with this practice, the joint efforts of this and other forums forced their hand on the gamecubes and there's no reason why the same result shouldn't be acheived this time.
Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.

Together we can make a difference.

  • Its all about marketing.

By enticing you in,with the promise of popular game sale prices, you as a buyer might be tempted to buy one of the more less known games. Its irrelevant whether they have the David B,Star Wars.Skate games in or not.The fact they have drawn you onto their website means they have partly accomplished their task.
You as the buyer are then tempted into buying something similar, namely one of the less popular games.
Even if just one person out of every 100 buys a less known game, the point is they have made a 'sale'

You also have to look at the timing of this.

At they end of the day Do you really think TESCO care?

As long as they continue to shift the less popular games, albeit slowly, they are still making money.

My feeling is that they never had these games in the first place.I take it these are very popular.I don't play these sort of things so I don't know. But whether it had been 3 games or 3 popular football shirts the same principles apply.

    Merry Crimbo Tesco.Nice play!!!

I think we're all in agreement that it appears that this is what some companies seem to be doing. The question is ..is it legal or is there a loophole that online shops are exploiting that needs to be closed? The way it stands at the moment it seems that,as long as it covers itself in it's T&C , any online company can advertise any manner of amazing unobtainable bargains, take loads of orders then claim it was a pricing error and cancel that particular item off the customer's order.

and hey, if you throw in a discount code that gives you £5 off if you spend over £30 then you increase the chances that people are going to buy other items as well as the "bargain" offer to get their baskets up to £30. ::)
