PC Screen Going White

Hi All,

My PC screen has started to go white today, when I switch it off & on.

I'm worried that my computer is on the blink & I may lose all my stuff.

Could it be the screen that's on the way out? I have had the Pc for 5 years.

Thanks beforehand - would appreciate some advice.

    TFT or CRT monitor?

    ie; is it a flatscreen?

I am not sure what the problem is, but I would advise backing up everything you need while you still have the opportunity.

Hi Strider it is indeed a flatscreen - ViewSonic.

Thanks Taffybiker - I think I really should get everything onto disc as it would cause major problems.

I did a bit of googling (is that even a word?:D) and it looks like the problem is the monitor, not the computer. So your data is safe, but I'd still back it up anyway.

Thanks for that - I am slightly relieved that it is only the monitor - It looks as if it is bleeding when I first put it on & off - like it's quickly going down the tubes.

White screen on a laptop means it needs a new screen and they is no fix for it.
The fault is covered by warranty if it's still in warranty that is.

    Hi Daily,
I don't think any cables are loose.

    Hi AdamMerry,

    It's a PC - a computer, not a lap top, although a flat screen

Borrow another monitor and plug that in. If all is OK then the monitor is failing. If not then it could be the monitor cable or the graphics card.
None of these faults will result in data loss-only hard disk failure can do that.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
