Cheapest and Best Way to Get Package We Want?

Hi Everyone,

First post, so be gentle.

Myself and my wife are soon to be moving house. Currently we just have plain freeview TV and have the phone and broadband provided by Tiscali. We've had no problem with them and have generally been satisfied with their service.

Anyway, when we move we want to have Sky Sports, and it's also crucial that we don't have to wait ages for broadband since we run a website.

We were all set to go with Sky, but I'm wondering whether Virgin would be better? Can anyone advise on the cheapest way to get Sky Sports? We wouldn't be opposed to combining the TV with a phone and broadband pack if it makes it into a really good deal. Tiscali costs us about £35 monthly for both at present.

Not too fussed about Sky 1 etc. They would be nice to have, but more bothered about Sky Sports News where other channels are concerned.

Also, would there likely be any problem with us setting up the broadband at our new house whilst keeping it going where we are now? To make sure that we only move in once broadband is up and running.

Thanks a lot for any help!

  • I don't think you'll get the broadband connected before you move in, as most companies won't accept orders until you're in the house, especially if there's someone else moving out.

  • Hi Dave,

I thought we might be able to since the house is empty. So we would order the broadband once we complete and then move once it's active.

Check out the waiting time. Some Sky customers are reporting a 3 month wait for Sky+.

I got the sky tv, phone and broadband package last year. They will not send out your broadband box until your TV has been installed, I got mine in about 4 days, but they do say up to about 15 days.
Regarding the package, to get Sky Sports you need to at least have the minimum TV package (around £16 just now i think) then you get to 'add-on' what you want. I think sky sports is around £10 extra.
Ask anyone you know who has sky if they have a 'refer a friend' deal or leaflet, I got my BIL to do this and we both got £50 MandS vouchers as a bonus.
I have the full TV package (minus movies and sports) and pay between £40-£45 pounds a month including phone calls. I know of some people who pay £45 just for the TV!
    Anyway hope this helps.
