I think the OP now has a comprehensive set of options from which to choose.
I'll leave it now.

If you do do the train don't forget the FGW offer should knock £5 off each leg (if you have enough email addresses)0

Oh dear, I'm not being a great MSEer on this - what's the FGW offer?0

Thanks everyone, I was looking at the train, 'cos I'm taking a bike up there, to leave behind with some folk. The flight want a fancy bike bag to transport it in! Train just book it on. But yes, I'll only have hand luggage.
Lots of options - thank you, just got to decide now!0 -
But a better option is to split in Edinburgh.
Kings Cross dep06:15, arr Edinburgh 11:09 or
Kings Cross dep09:00, arr Edinburgh 13:38, either of these advance single £48.05.
Edinburgh, dep15:00, arr: Aberdeen, 17:37 - Advance single £12.90
Total = £60.95.
If you wish to use the FGW £5 off offer, you need to book via the FGW website.
You can either have the NXEC 10% online discount or the FGW £5 off per booking... you cannot have both.
Btw, the 09:00 Kings Cross departure is no longer available at £48.05.0
