london to aberdeen - checking for advise before I book and pay!

I need to travel, London to ABerdeen, 3rd July - i know far too short notice! Anyway, is National Express site the cheapest way to search? If I book weeks in advance, I can do £38 but this short notice is a bit painfully expensive! Over £100.

Just checking if anyone has any clever tricks before I bite the bullet and pay!

Thanks guys.

    Still over £100, but first class advance single is £108.50 on the 10:30 and 14:00 Kings Cross departures.
    A standard class advance single on the same trains is £114.00.
    Travel in comparitive luxury... cheaper.

    But a better option is to split in Edinburgh.
    Kings Cross dep06:15, arr Edinburgh 11:09 or
    Kings Cross dep09:00, arr Edinburgh 13:38, either of these advance single £48.05.
    Edinburgh, dep15:00, arr: Aberdeen, 17:37 - Advance single £12.90
    Total = £60.95.
  • Scotrail still have tickets available for £62 seated and £100 sleeper - you get a bed in a 2 person compartment.

    Hiya,

    Does your travel need to be by train ?

    If not the mega bus will get you there on Thursday 2nd July for £15 or Friday the 3rd for between £20 and £30 depending on the time you travel. These are just single journey tickets but it might help.

    Go to https://www.megabus.com and select your dates.

    Hope this helps.

    To be honest I think you must be mental to travel by train these days. Have you checked how much it would be to go by air?

    Well the cheapest flight from London (any airport) to Aberdeen on that date is £89.98 (inc.taxes and fees). That's from Gatwick and no checked in baggage.
    So if you have one suitcase (£8.00), and assume the cheapest fare from central london to Gatwick (£3.00), the air fare will cost you ninety eight pence over £100.

    Look on the bright side though. This option does give you two hours and forty minutes to explore Leeds-Bradford airport.

    Thank you for your lateral thinking, Scouselander.

    Sleazyjet are quoting £55.99 from London Luton inc taxes etc. Sounds like the way forward to me.

    Looks good scouselander.
    Just add £8.00 for a suitcase and £12.50 for a train* from London to Luton Airport.
    Total = £76.49.

    *no doubt a cheaper bus can be found.

    You can always save the £8 for checked in baggage if you take a smaller bag that can be taken on as hand luggage (not sure if this would suit the OP or not).

    In any case it has to be better than taking the bus all the way - that would surely take all day. Even the train is going to take quite a long time.
