Cheapest Way To Move?????

Could really do with some help and hopefully someone will be able to offer me some advice!!!
Im due to move soon from Manchester to Essex, I was going to hire a van and my friend was going to drive it for me (i dont drive) i found one for £49 for 24 hours, which i thought would be great the only downside to this is that they want a £250 deposit to hire the van due to the fact that im paying by cash (i dont have a credit or debit card and nor does my friend). I also dont have the money in cash after paying the deposit on the new house.
I have today emailed some man and van companies on ebay and am waiting to hear back.
I have had a quote from a removals company for £675.
Im currently trying to see if anyone I know has a van or knows someone with a van but so far havent had much luck
Has anyone any ideas of how i can move all my stuff and keep the costs down?
I dont have a great deal to move a double bed, set of bunk beds, dining table (all of which can be dismantled) a coffee table and a tumble dryer the rest is boxes, bags and suitcases.

Have you had a look on Manchester gumtree? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Im actually in Essex at the moment so was looking from this end, i have had a look on the essex gumtree but not had much luck really, also put an advert up in the jobs section on gumtree explaining what i need to see if there was anyone out there with a van that could help!! Running out of options now0

So what's wrong with getting the deposit in cash out of the bank or from a relative who you reimburse with a cheque and going for what is probably going to be the cheapest option on earth, dirt cheap hire of a van for 24 hrours?0

I think thats the way youll have to go.
Another company is taxi vans they will do one ways for you. Have you also tried Salfrd Van hire.
Its really difficult to do it paying cash, otherwise you could use something like Enterprise vans and pick it up in manc & drop it off in essex. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Because i dont have the money in the bankI have just used all of my savings as the deposit on this place, i wont get the deposit back from my other tenancy until it is empty
Im pretty much stuck in a catch 22 situation.
Because i dont have any living relatives that i can ask, my family consists of myself and my two children
Do you think if i had those options i would be asking if anybody had any other ideas???0 -

You have to have the card/ bank details of the driver. You cant have someone else pay for it, if you are going to drive.

Well im hoping one of the man and van companies come back with a reasonable price, and go from there.
If not a may just have to wait a few weeks until i have got the extra money to put the depost down on hiring a van0 -
So the situation is that you've got virtually no cash, less than £300, no access to credit and you want to move halfway across the country?.0

Are you emotionally attached to that stuff or could you freecycle it there are get similar items back at your new place? Then you could just hire a car in cash for the one direction with just your personal bits.0
