If you do go bankrupt, check with the court what occupation you put on your forms. I know the office I was at used to get the court to change the bankruptcy order so the profession was showed as public servant rather thn police officer (did the same for prison officers too). That was when it was advertised in local press, so they may not to that any more.

    Hi

One of my mates was a PCSO that went bankrupt a while ago, and I asked him about it. When he was made bankrupt, he had to let his line manager, HR department, and the Force Vetting officer know. To the latter, he had to write a letter explaining the circumstance leading upto it. He was not sacked or disciplined, but he was informed that he would not be able to apply for any other jobs within the police until he had been discharged for 3 years. It may vary from different forces, so please check it yourself. I hope this helps.

Have you declared your IVA to your current force?

As said before, they will look at whether you are bribable or not. You are less bribable once BR as you have no debts, in their eyes you are potentially bribable in an IVA due to you still having debts you are struggling to pay off.

You need to speak to your professional standards department and ask what your forces policy is on it, as you will know the police has a policy for everything.

As far as I know as long as you keep them informed and can been seen to be taking steps to deal with your debts (eg BR) they will be fine with it. :o

Speak to them sooner rather than later, once you know where you stand you will feel much more empowered to move forward to BR.

    Good Luck.
