Are Student Finance England incompetent?

Applied online and everything seemed to be going well. Needed to chang my Uni choice so filled in the relevant form provided and also sent off with my evidence for childcare grant and parent learning allowance and over 2weeks later they supposedly still have not recieved any of this. Now they send me a final assement notice that does not award me any PLA or CCG and has the wrong university which means the course fee amount is also wrong :mad:

I am at my wits end. I sent the forms to the right address and there is just no excuse for this. I am now worried that they will refuse to reasses. The current award does not help me out AT ALL and I will be in dire straits without the supplementary grants.

I am so miffed and I hate the fact that the letter has arrived on a saturday when I can't do anything about it :mad:

Have they messed things up for anyone else?

Yes. They are.

They are giving everyone non-means tested support at present. This is supposedly to try and clear a backlog of forms.

They should have income assessed you first time though, as students with children are classed sa vunerable. It's a terrible service I'm afraid, but this is what happens when you take away the collective knowledge of LEA's and replace it with temporary staff.

well I had loads of trouble last year but this year my finance came through without me applying or filling in any forms?? Amazing or what?

eh, are you saying you didn't send off any forms but they paid your tuition fees and you got a loan?

If that's the case, then maybe you can get out of repaying it? Not something I condone, but still...

... Or they applied for the first time last year, and this year is just a "Hey, we assume you have the same amount this year too, so here you go" ?

I applied a while back and haven't got round to sending off the means tested forms yet (my fault!) and they sent me a letter saying "This is how much you will get non-means tested, unless you provide us with further information" which is fair enough, as they have nothing more to go on at the moment.

To the OP, I would call them on Monday, explain the situation as calmly and as reasonably as you can, and hopeflly things will be ironed out for you - things do get lost in the post/misplaced/overlooked, unfortunately.

The saga continues. Resent everything again at their request, next day signed for, and they haven't received that YET as well :mad:

Change of Circumstances forms are generally processed after the main forms will be done. This is so the majority of students get their loans and grants ontime.

Not sure if you posted in the wrong thread because we are talking about the initial application here and not changes of circumstance.
