Hi
I got a mini cab back from b&q on sat around 8pm with a load of stuff ,the cab was booked
by B&Q
woke up sunday morning realised my phone was missing
called vodafone around 11 sunday morning to report it as lost or stolen as it`s on contract, guy said give it a couple of days as it may turn up then call back ,did put a stop on it,
just called vodafone now, and they said it was used at 4:30 am on sunday morning to download stuff off the internet, and someone made two calls on it to a uk mobile number, he said total cost was running around £40 pounds, but will not know total cost till around 12:30 am tomorrow afternoon apparently takes 72 hours for system to upload, but said it`s very unlikely there will be more costs, I`m just a bit miffed as the first guy said leave it for a couple of days till I report to police,
oh and the trip from b&q was my last venture out till I realised sunday morning
looking at the links insurance it says report phone to police within 24 hours
is it worth reporting , as I will have to pay £25 excess
Home insurance and outside the house insurance will have to pay the excess fee of £50
I was more worried about the total costs of calls being made after reading some of the horror stories on here
Any tips going forward,
vodafone said it won`t be till july till I can upgrade, i.e get a new phone off them
would it be better to just get a mobile off the shelf with a new sim card from vodafone? till july?
To be honest, I was more freaked out worrying about someone calling all over the world and running a huge bill up

Don't hold your breath about getting hold of any numbers called unless you get itemised or online billing. Vodaphone probably won't even give it to the police. 10 days ago, a neighbour had his house burgled and car stolen, the thieves dropped their own mobile phone which the police took as evidence. The phone company involved won't reveal any details about the phone's owner or called numbers until they have gone through the legal implications of the Data Protection Act.
Re an insurance claim, you may find the delay will affect any claim and your premium is likely to rise if you claim on household insurance. You are liable for all calls made until the phone is reported stolen to, and blocked, by Vodaphone. Hopefully £40 is the sum total and not just a running total! I had over £100 calls made on my daughter's stolen phone to overseas numbers and they were made in the 2 hours after the phone went missing. O2 gave me a replacement sim which she used in an old handset until she could upgrade."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
Sorry to learn about your loss, I had a phone stolen in January this year in works time lucky for me I rang orange up within ten minutes of the theft and got the phone blacklisted (that’s barred to all UK and Europe networks ,according to my little brother how worked on the tech side for o2 )and replaced at a cost that work paid for ,now I cheat my phone like a credit card always now where it is and have it on me at all time when not at home and us Bluetooth more so people do not see what phone I have in public
there is some good news the police caught the people that stole it from the cctv at workthere or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0 -
It could be different going through your home insurance, but where I work its really important that the phone is reported lost/stolen to the police asap, as how quickly it happens can effect your claim.0
