Mine does the same, I hit the homepage icon and the page then appears. My problem started happening around the time when I downloaded AVG's toolbar. There were a few prompts asking me to change my home address to Yahoo, but I declined. Could be something to do with a Yahoo bug, don't really know:confused:

I downloaded the Malwarebytes program, removed two infections, but internet explorer problem still there. Don't think its anything serious.

Is it connected fully? double click on the little flashy monitor icon, click on support and check your IP address, if it's 0.0.0.0 then your not connected to the router correctly.

Have you checked your connection settings in IE options? I know it's a tad obvious.
Its tools > options > connections > lan settings > auto detect settings

Also try getting into control panel and disable windows firewall temporarily.

Can you please open malwarebytes, goto LOGS and post the complete log just in case. Then ~

    reboot

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click DO A SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE (Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

Is it connected fully? double click on the little flashy monitor icon, click on support and check your IP address, if it's 0.0.0.0 then your not connected to the router correctly.

Have you checked your connection settings in IE options? I know it's a tad obvious.
Its tools > options > connections > lan settings > auto detect settings

Also try getting into control panel and disable windows firewall temporarily.

Tried everything there strider. Also ticked both the SSL and TLS protocols under the security section. Still no joy.

does get confusing when someone hijacks your thread rather than start a new one

Shaun , have you tried disabling any Firewall software you have on that machine for a second to see if it connects ??

    have you reset IE8/IE7 ? - Tools > Internet Options > Advanced - Reset

post 2 here has quite a few things to try
